Terrible management
Utility Locate Technician (Former Employee) –  Hayward, CAMay 30, 2019
Lots of empty promises. Looking for any reason to write you up cause then your not eligible for raises. Lots of hours which is good cause the pay is low. But with more hours more room for errors and then your going to be driving to the office ever morning to get yelled at.
Pros
Company truck, company cell phone
Cons
Micromanaging, stress, drivecam

Not a bad place for a young adult, but strictly a stepping stone job
Tech 3 damage prevention specialist (Former Employee) –  Hayward, CAMarch 26, 2019
Terrible job management, meaning there's to much work to be done and the proper steps to help decrease stress an increase productivity are obviously not taken. You can survive if you are a solid worker an don't waste time. Superiors don't want to be bothered or help when there is an overload of work. It seems as if evey worker besides a handful in every group is just honestly lazy. But like I said, it's good for a young adult to use as a stepping stone for your career path.
Pros
Work Truck, Gas Card, & almost too much overtime.
Cons
Too much overtime, lazy leaders an superiors, & unequal pay compared to other utility companies

Utility Locator (Former Employee) –  Hayward, CAMarch 21, 2019
you are not set up well to do your job and have to do most of your learning on your own. half of what you are told in training class is not true. you will not be rewarded properly for hard and diligent work but will be put down for even the smallest mistake that might not even affect anybody. lowest paying utility locating company and they do not treat their workers fairly. a lot of hard working good employees within this company, that are taken advantage of every day for their willingness to do the best job they can. this is why this company has a high turnover rate. would recommend to someone who is very young and in need of making decent money for someone in their low 20s, but not for someone who is trying to get into a company they can make a true and solid career out of.
Pros
work truck to take home
Cons
overworked, unfair compensation, unfair treatment, not a long term place of work if you ever want to make over $30/hour

Not enough money...
Field Locate Technician (Former Employee) –  Hayward, CAApril 1, 2018
I loved working for the manager and my supervisor...They were some of the best bosses I have had in a while...I also got along with all of my coworkers in the field...The company it self will do anything you need for you to feel like a family there..I never would have left if they paid more.....That is the only problem I had...I truly miss my supervisor and my general manager as well as HR they were very hands on and really down to earth...But before I left they did try to up the pay rate it just wasn't enough for me to pay rent and bills..
Pros
Great people to work for and with
Cons
Too low of pay

Stressfull demanding job
Damage Prevention Technician (Current Employee) –  Hayward, CAMay 7, 2017
Everyday is a challenge at this company, the demands that are made are almost intolerable, this job requires almost military precision and for the responsibility that you take if you make a mistake is not worth the salary that is offered, there are drive cameras in the vehicles that we use and if you happen to make a mistake the disipline is outrageous and unfair, raises are dependent upon your production and these drive cam clips, which basically means no raise, or minimal at best if these things are not met
Pros
If no damages against you, maybe you'll get a gift card, a jacket, if you go for one year
Cons
45 minute lunch break

Damage Prevention (Former Employee) –  Hayward, CAJune 11, 2016
Great place to work! Steady work unless company workload is low. Learned how to read utility maps, navigate duck runs, and use safe driving methods with other company policies. co-workers and management are helpful when they are free to help. Hardest part of the job would be busy roads or high traffic area. Most enjoyable would be self management and just seeing all walks of life, entertaining most of the time.
Pros
company truck, benefits, 9-5.
Cons
typical things such as commute.

productive, work at your own pace job
Damage Prevention Technician (Current Employee) –  Hayward, CAJuly 10, 2012
on a typical day you will do around 10 tickets on average, and you can work up to 12 hr days if they allow it. but it varies on your work speed, and the supervisors don't rush you to finish jobs

i learned how to read prints and how to locate telephone and cable lines underground, and marking procedures. its paid training also

management is great if your doing your job. they dont rush you to get job done and their is no minimum amount of jobs you have to get done a day.

you dont get to see your co-workers often but when you do its very limited. they also like to call out sick alot so plan on being short handed most of the time.

hardest part of the job is the hours. when you first start its just 8 hr days, then once your done with training and on your own the hours can get long and with emergency jobs at random times of the day (and at night) you never know when your day is over.

most enjoyable part of the job is that you have the freedom to go at your own pace and your on your own. you can take your lunch and take brakes when you want.
Pros
alot of freedom to perform the job, lots of overtime
Cons
long hours, equipments not great
