The DriveCam is a nightmare, constantly having to worry about setting it off for taking a turn too hard or braking too hard and going to a “meeting”, having them tell you how to drive. Also, they don’t disclose it, but they can pull your DriveCam at any time and watch whatever you’re doing in your truck at any moment (audio AND video)Although they can’t use it against you unless it’s actaully set off. They recently introduced “Tech Tier” pay, meaning you get a grade or rating based on how many locates you complete per hour. But you are only able to meet those requirements based off what area you are in. If you are in an area where there is only 1 utility to locate and 30 minutes driving time in between tickets, it’s impossible to get more than 2 locates per hour meaning you won’t get anymore money unless you stay there long enough to get your annual raises. They introduced this as a way to improve turnover rate, but it is a very unfair system which favors those in areas where there are multiple utilities to locate. To be graded a “lead technician”(and make $30 an hour) you have to locate over 6 utilities per hour, and that’s just impossible in a lot of areas. A set up for failure. I would have to work here for about 14 years to make the same as someone else could make just by being in a different area. I am desperately trying to use my experience to get into another company where the payscale is more fair.
DriveCam, very stressful, unfair payscale, mandatory on call
