Not bad to start but bad to stay.

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Its not a bad place to start out learning but raises happen very slowly and only once a year. Management is very bad at getting you the things you need. We had to fight them just to get a chart to move material easier. I also have to lift heavy material daily and constantly come home with back pain. Also was told the position I was hired for would be temporary and I could move up in about 3 to 4 months, its been 8 months with no sign of moving up in sight, and when they move you up theres no pay increase, you just have to wait for your yearly review to get 10 cents more an hour. Its not a bad place to start just not the best to stay.

Pros

Laid back

Cons

Low pay, bad management.

Don’t waste your time

Most people want to like their job, advance, and have a positive experience at an employer-you won’t have that here. The small group of employees that stay have been there for 10,15,20+ years and tolerate the toxicity and unprofessionalism and even assisted in creating that type of atmosphere. The company struggles to retain fresh, young talent as it is a revolving door of people who come and go.

Pros

Holiday time off

Cons

Stable and secure with opportunities for growth

It's a privately-held company with very low turnover. A lot of people have been here for 20 or 30 years which gives it a family-like atmosphere. The business is very stable and job security is high. There are also opportunities to learn multiple areas of the business and change your role over time. Overall it's a good place to work and you can have a rewarding career here.

Family Oriented Atmosphere with Dynamic Growth Opportunities

Valco Melton is a global company with a small family oriented atmosphere. The company structure allows, and often requires, that employees get involved in multiple facets of the company. This cross training and the global reach of the company allow for multiple career paths. The company culture creates a sense belonging, as evidenced by the number of employees that stay for their entire careers. Benefits are for the most part commensurate with the market.

Pros

Family Oriented Atmosphere, Global Reach Affords Many Opportunities, Company Experiencing Rapid Growth

Cons

Vacation Days Limited

Autocratic management

Top management is run like an autocratic dictatorship. They like to pretend to be a family business, but this is only for the co-owners family that gets paid for doing nothing. Different opinions are not welcome and dissenters are fired at a whim. Oldtimers that are willing to submit to this abusive management style love it there and stay forever with under market rate compensation. New employees have huge turnovers as this old school style of management is not tolerated by newer generations of employees.

Pros

Good work life balance

Cons

Terrible benefits, below market rate compensation and autocratic management

Poor work environment and management

They were very slow with responses from the HR department. They didn’t know how to handle reserve military situations with scheduling. They also didn’t explain in detail their guidelines for military leave and pay. Management is very biased, pay is low compared to other like businesses, raises were also very low for the experience that other workers or I had.

A Competent Place

It's a medium sized company with 200-300 employees. It's family owned and is the kind of place most people will work the whole life with the same job. It's a fair work place. If your a good employee then thell be a good employer.

A lot of issues...

Problems with management, tools, the way customers and immigrant workers were treated. Can not currently discuss. Expenses out of pocket, at least paid on time

Good company

This was a good company to work for. I enjoyed the challenge and the coworkers that i had a chance to work with. They operated on a mom and pop budget, but other than that it was a good stable company and environment.

Pros

challenge

Cons

infrastructure
