Working for Vanderlande for 5 years was a great experience. I was able to experience growth during my time there and gained a lot of knowledge. I worked with a team that truly cared about one another.

Work you to death

This job will work you to death! Zero work life balance. Have zero processes in place to help get the job done. Like walking around in the dark trying to read a book. Pay would be great if you were not salary all the extra hours don’t add up.

Pros

Benefits

Cons

Working all the time.

No sense of team. No training. No structure.

Favoritism. Unappreciated. No structure. Managers are non existent and lack leadership. Not engaged. There is no training program whatsoever. In your first week, you will learn more than you need to know, and then you will most likely leave like 90% of the others. Inconsistency with scheduling, empty words from management, no follow up, harassment reported yet nothing done.

Pros

Requests for basic needs take a long time to fulfill and most of the time requests go unanswered

Cons

Great place to work

Benefits are great. Good 401k match. Health Insurance is best I have come across. 3 weeks PTO, sick leaves and floating holidays. Great team and culture!

Cons

Compensation is average

Bad behaivor gets rewarded

No accountable, poor leadership, co-workers will stab you in back, long hours without knowing what time getting out of work. Alot of downtime in which everyone is on phone instead of maintaining system. Management only cares about money even though they claim they are about people. Rewarding bad behavior, if you actually do your job you will be expected to do more because no one else would.

Pros

Airport can be a good place

Cons

Way too many to list

Very demanding without much to show for it

This company has been around for a long time and seems to just now catching up to modern society. I realized after a while how unorganized/unmotivated this company is.

Pros

Cool people. Manager was very good

Cons

Pay is mediocre for them to be such a successful company

Cons

Long hours no time off. The worst management I had seen up until that job. Great guys to work with but management and supervisors were butt. And insurance was 705 a month…

Not a place for people looking to learn

Vanderlande is better suited for people whom already whom are in the mid level if their career. They tend to recruit a lot of young engineers who typically do not have a lot of experience. Unfortunately the company does not have a training program to help bring new people up to speed properly so that they can do the work. Many times this is because tribal knowledge is not kept and the company does not learn from its mistake to improve its process efficiency. Much of its success is due to luck. Many of the people are hard workers but do not get the support from leadership. Leadership believes that change happens from the bottom and not the top.

Pros

Great opportunity to get exposure to new technology

Cons

Lots of politics and non transparent management

Not a good place to work

It’s not a good place to work. Will not hire you on. They will act like you are going to get hired on and it’s family oriented so that means the family friends and close family will get hired on before anyone else then you come after them

Good company, going through changes. Great culture however still growing and developing and with it there are some growing pains and turnover across different positions.

Pros

Flexible work hours. Good compensation.

Cons

Work can be demanding and leak into the weekend.

Senior management takes credit for your work and projects.

Senior management has turned over significantly. There is a pattern of the employee producing quality projects and initiatives and the manager claims credit. Demeaning treatment. Products are good... maybe it is different than the team in the US - Atlanta.

Pros

Snacks - some co-workers are great to work with.

Cons

Local Senior management - does not encourage innovation when they take credit for your work/ideas/

Structured environment with most having common goals

ChallengingMany excellent co-workers Homeland managers working in the US are not truthful and are able to abuse their position and subordinates. Not as equal opportunity as they claim.

Pros

structured, stable, challenging

Cons

Homeland managers working in the US are able abuse their positions

Everything is made as cheaply as possible

Sorters are made as cheaply as possible. Dual motors rather than a single motor because it is cheaper, although it posses all sorts of problems when it comes to operation. All schematics are European so they are useless to US employees. Code is written in script not ladder logic. Most companies would fire you for writing in script since it is impossible to debug. Since nobody can work with the poorly wirten code Vanderlande is always needed. If you go with this company then you might as well get rid of your maintenance department because they can not fix the poorly designed and executed equipment. Funny thing is the EXACT same thing that goes into UPS goes into FedEx. If they are actually find a problem and fix it at a UPS facility then they immediately go to FedEx and apply the same fix. They lost over a billion dollars a few years ago because of such poor equipment.

Pros

Sometimes they have free bagles

Cons

If you are not from the Netherlands then you do not count.

I wouldn’t recommend

You have a lot of long tenured managers bringing things down. My direct department was poorly managed causing confusion, chaos and lack of direction among coworkers. I did manage to perform my job smoothly due to my professional experience. Since I left, things have gotten out-of-control and unmanageable.

Good company

Hours are not good. But have great pay. It’s 12hr shift. If you are willing to learn it will be great opportunity. Atmosphere is neutral you have ups and downs.

Structured

The company is becoming top heavy. By that I mean that the hourly man, over the last few years has not been fairly treaty in the financial department. Compared to the tremendous progress and money being made by the corporate folks. There are several good things about VI though. Ability to travel and relocate. And opportunity to learn and work on new and different equipment. Pay is ok, but hard to advance.

The hardest part of the job

During peak time. It gets a little out of control with multiple calls for service help and the Machine going out of service around peak time. But, we got through peak time everything started to clear up and go back to normal(slow time)
