Good People Poor Management
Paper Specialist (Current Employee) –  Duluth, MNNovember 5, 2018
Great money and fair benefits but management will require you to sacrifice your free time for "company need" more often than they will let on at first.

Good employees but lack of management
E&I Apprentice (Current Employee) –  Wisconsin Rapids, WIMarch 9, 2018
Really good place to work at. Good pay, benefits and employees. Only downfall is lack of parts for maintenance and management always changes their minds.

Poorly Managed Investment Company
Maintenance (Former Employee) –  Jay, MENovember 4, 2018
I would be very careful before going to work for this company. I was there for years and they are horrible. They are nothing more than a bunch of bankers looking for ways to play the system for example filing multiple bankruptcies. Management is out of touch, hostile and breed this behavior. Keep looking!!

stressfull always blaming the worker looking to fire anti union
Papermaking (Former Employee) –  Escanaba, MINovember 2, 2018
Poor management Anti worker and Union still do not have contract after 2 yrs. Blame workers for anything that goes wrong nothing is ever their fault under safety policy's faulty equipment or procedure.
Most of the older work force has already left early because they
do not know how to treat workers!
Pros
wages OK for the area
Cons
Not treated well

Process Control Engineer (Current Employee) –  Luke, MDJuly 21, 2018
There is no room for individual ideas or knowledge from the mills. Corporate will tell you how your equipment needs to work and will not listen to the experience of the people who have personally seen their ideas not work. Disagree too many times and you'll be let go.

Was a good mill until Verso bought and sold the mill.
Assistant Crew Leader (Former Employee) –  Wickliffe, KYJune 6, 2018
This mill was once Westvaco, then MeadWestvaco, then NewPage and finally Verso. After Westvaco the other companies ran it into the ground. Didn't fix equipment or replace workers as they retired.
Pros
Swing shift with plenty of time off.
Cons
Hot, long hours.

Productive work environment with a provided office.
Reliability Engineer Intern (Current Employee) –  Luke, MDAugust 22, 2018
A typical day consisted of some field work and computer updates. The job provides an excellent combinational experience with office and field work. The employees are very friendly and willing to help. One of the sayings is "GOBFAR" meaning Get On Board or Find Another Ride. Everyone is involved in something and helping somebody somewhere. Lunch time is paid and sometimes my mentor would take us all out for lunch on him. The hardest part is trying to finish a project that someone had unfinished during their time. But there is always someone to go to for any sorts of questions you may have.

A shrinking market and company
Product Development Manager (Current Employee) –  Grand Island, NYOctober 1, 2017
I'm satisfied with my job and paid well overall. The company culture is dependent on where you are located. Some locations are better than others. The benefits are nice but shrinking as of late.

Overall, Verso and companies similar are under a lot of pressure for revenue due to a declining market demand for their products (paper). As such, mills are being shut down, people are being laid off as the market demand for paper products shrink.

There will be more pain for the company and similar companies in the coming years.

As an industry, Verso does pay their employee well but that too is under pressure as mentioned above. At this moment, I do not recommend Verso or other similar companies until the business stabilizes.
Pros
Excellent pay/benefits
Cons
Shrinking business

Summer Help (Former Employee) –  Escanaba, MIJuly 15, 2018
I worked here for 2 summers to make extra money. The job itself was fairly easy and the employees were easy to get along with. I wouldn't personally ever work there permanently but for some people it is a good job they would like
Pros

Laborer (Current Employee) –  Wisconsin Rapids, WISeptember 2, 2017

Master Data Analyst (Current Employee) –  Wisconsin Rapids, WIJuly 9, 2018
Verso pays employees well yet for some reason has a tendency to hire or promote individuals that are not suitable for the position. Verso has a tendency to "fill the spot" with unqualified individuals or promote people to a level of incompetence. This creates unpleasant work situations as those that are hard working and knowledgeable receive more tasks and the incompetent people are given less work as they cannot meet standards.

No future in printing paper
Papermaker (Former Employee) –  Bucksport, MEJune 19, 2017
The CEO was a dip and had no vision. His papermaking skills were terrible. He lead several locations down the drain. Too bad because there was a lot of potential. Good employees and lower level salary members.
Pros
Good lower salary personal

No future in printing paper

Good company but lack of job security
Shipping Assistant Crew Leader (Current Employee) –  Wickliffe, KyAugust 24, 2015
a 12 hour swing shift loading otr trailers and rail cars. pulling rolls from production line to place in warehouse using clamptruck. Using gantry crane to setup paper rolls to be cut down to customer specs. Using SAP to print reports for cycle counting and inventory, also use OptiVision for other inventory reports. I have learned most of this on the job. Management was good for the most part, always wish they were better in one area or other. Co workers were great. Hardest part of the job at first was getting used to the swing shift, but now its just not knowing if the mill will be open next month or not. Most enjoyable would just being able to provide a good living for my family.

good pay and benefits

job security

I made some great friend's.Learned about what I was capable of, in a very fast paced enviroment.
Back tender (Former Employee) –  Bucksport, MEMay 18, 2017
Fast paced, very hot (140 degrees), 12 hour shifts, few break's.
Confidence in my self, and my abilities, how to direct a crew. Safety.
Managment, I had a succesion of different people, that were very young for the job at hand, mid 20's. teacher and babysitter.
Vastly different from your normal day job, your crew was your family, older hand's would take time to explain operational issues to the younger members. Safety, better way...etc.
You are constantly dealing with one crisis to the next, that took time out of your already busy day.
Actually, getting relieved from your shift, crew members going home in one piece, with everything running well. The next crew coming in for their shift, had the best possible start to their day.
Pros
Paid well, health care, 401k, 6 week's vacation time, 14 days a month off.
Cons
Breaks were far and few between, lucky if you got to sit down and eat lunch.

Pros
Pays very well and benefits are great.
Cons
rotating shift work is hard.
