Excellent Role
Scientific Associate II (Former Employee) - Boston, MA - May 8, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedVertex is great pharma company to work for, but it honestly depends on the department you are working for. Working in the R&D field is amazing and really insightful but I was missing the opportunity to work with people. I left to work more with tech sales instead of consistently doing research in the back end. Lots of information and tools; however management in public biotech companies is really not the best so make sure your work is shown and you are speaking with the decision makers to move up the corporate ladder!

Best Management I’ve worked with
Facilities Operations Associate (Former Employee) - San Diego, CA - May 19, 2023
Vertex Pharmaceuticals was my first insight into the corporate world. Before them I worked for small privately owned companies. I was worried to work for a big company, but all my worries were completely subsided. It was the best company I ever worked for, the management was so much more supportive than any other company I worked for. I was encouraged to ask questions and more importantly I was encouraged to ask for help! There was never a day I didn’t feel supported (even sometimes when I felt in over my head).
Pros
Good management, free lunches, good benefits
Cons
Hard to get to know everyone

Great over all compensation, not worth the tole it takes
Associate Director (Former Employee) - Boston, MA - April 5, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Total compensation package is strong! What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Grind house that cares very little about individual employees. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Stressful culture which leads many to burn out. Politics rule all. What is a typical day like for you at the company? 12-16 hours non stop fire fighting

Fun place awful manager
Scientist (Current Employee) - Boston, MA - March 14, 2023
It's a great company with excellent benefits. I learned a lot but unfortunately my manager is horrible. There is some back stabbing and micromanagement so you have to be careful what you are saying. The science and the resources are great you can learn a lot, If not for the manager I wouldn;t have any major complaints

Great Internship

I was an intern in the Assay Development team, and it was a great experience. I learned several skills I could take to my job post-graduation. i felt very supported and had some sort of autonomy in my project, which is very important to my style of learning,
Pros
Cafe in building, clear management structure

Horrible experience.
Quality Control EM/UM (Former Employee) - Boston, MA - March 5, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Free breakfast and modern fitness center. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Figuring out the task on your own as some trainers deliberately give false and misleading information. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Pretentious and unprofessional. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Overloaded schedule with unrealistic expectations from leadership.

toxic work environment
Contractor (Former Employee) - Boston, MA - December 27, 2022
I have worked here as a contractor, and I will tell you this place is full of headless chickens and people who get promoted or given roles just because they know someone. It's more important about getting results. The actual employees most of them see themselves as god and are full of entitlement. That saying it's the coworkers that make the place is telling the truth because if not, I wouldn't have been here as long as I was. Best of luck to anyone who decides to work here as a contractor since we're not worth more than the dirt under a person's boot

Jobs at Vertex Pharmaceuticals
At least i got paid
Manager (Former Employee) - Boston, MA - September 16, 2022
Just dont be a contractor. Contractors arent invited to events. Dont get any bonuses, benefits, time off or considerations. They also prefer you stay there as hiring you would mean more $$

Fun bunch of IT leaders at every level
Cyber Principal Engineer (IoT Lab, and Embedded devices) (Current Employee) - Boston, MA - August 13, 2022
The typical day at work comes with a great flow of tasks, working meetings, and daily standups. Resources are a little scarce, but enough are available to get a lot done. Management is committed to seeing improvements in most areas.
Pros
Flexibility to work anywhere
Cons
problem of data privacy in a researcher environment collaborating with external stakeholders.

Good & Bad Experience
Manufacturing Operations Technician (Former Employee) - Providence, RI - July 19, 2022
The company is a very amazing company. They offer great pay, amazing benefits, very innovative, strive for success. My experience at the location started off good until new management took over the shift. Everyone became miserable on the shift. The work is very simple and for a very good cause. The other shift and other locations have such a more positive atmosphere. I hope it changes for my ex-colleagues they deserve it. The job became mentally draining and exhausting from career to I’m just here for a paycheck. I really hope they reconsider management and the lead to keep the Vertex atmosphere it had before a new manager had started.
Pros
Amazing benefits, Hour break, Amazing cause, Simple work
Cons
Management, Lead was disrespectful

Tough place to work but good benefits
Senior Scientific Associate (Former Employee) - Boston, MA - July 15, 2022
Difficult place to work. Upper management works you into the ground. Expects everything to be done on tight (unrealistic) timeliness with what basically amounts to a skeleton crew. Company culture is also super "woke", and will send you emails to lecture you about politics and tell you how we're supposed to feel about certain things as "Vertexians". It really annoying if all you want to do is do your job.
Pros
Benefits are good, and work schedule is flexible
Cons
Tough work and they don't know their boundaries.

Great Place to work! Always feel as if there is room to grow and learn more. Work can be a lot, but it's always rewarding and the team makes the juice worth the squeeze/

Fun and supportive environment
Director (Current Employee) - Boston, MA - April 29, 2022
Personally. I have only interacted south wonderful and supportive people here. There is a need for this quickly- growing company to streamline decision-making and strategy. It's a good work environment for many people but not all.

Good Established Company
Associate Scientist, Analytical Chemistry (Former Employee) - South Boston, MA - June 15, 2021
Good opportunity to advance, grow and learn new things. Management and the work/life balance needs adjusting on some teams, not all. Really cool place to cultivate skills in process chemistry, analytical chemistry and management of drug pipelines.

Leadership seems lost
Manager (Current Employee) - Boston, MA - February 10, 2021
It seems leadership has no direction. The communications are horrible. There are way too many politics, more than any where I have worked. I am surprised they never promote anyone unless you are in a secret list.
Pros
Year end shutdown
Cons
Management is horrible. Communications are horrible for internal employees.
