Toxic , overworking environment
Veterinary Technician (Current Employee) - Tampa, FL - September 26, 2023
vetco's focus , since the minute they opened , has been making as much money as possible , with minimal staffing. You won't ever leave on time, and the only way to get time off is by FaceTiming management at the hospital. Gross company with grosser management.

Terrible management, good discounts
Veterinary Assistant (Former Employee) - Riverside, CA - September 15, 2023
Management all the way to corporate is terrible. They allow favoritism, doesn’t schedule to take a lunch on time, blames a lot of their problems to people down the branch, and overall just super messy. They care about animals, but not their employees. Pto & overtime, but if you care about your mental health, life work balance, or your energy: don’t work here. It’s an easy first vet job, but once you learn the basics that’s as far as you’ll get. Growth is also not much of an option.
Pros
Overtime, Pto, closed on holidays
Cons
Late lunches, overworked, bad management

Horrible
Clinic lead (Former Employee) - Southington, CT - September 14, 2023
Couldn’t stand another day horrible management loved the animals and working with the vets. The pay wasn’t the worst as a clinic lead. Management has the most unrealistic expectation’s and they don’t follow any osha standards really

An okay place, but can be draining at the current pay rate
Veterinary Assistant (Current Employee) - Southington, CT - September 9, 2023
Pay should not be so close to minimum wage for techs when they get all up close and personal with angry, scared dogs. We need to all speak up about fair pay or we will all be taken advantage of. Management is strange, but is working on a lot of wrongs from previous management The travel is nice sometimes out of state Coworkers can be either catty, or sweet, really a mixed bunch. Teamwork is a must. Dogs and customers can be quite snappy and dangerous, 90 percent of the time they are perfectly normal
Pros
Cute dogs, long hours if you need them, nice coworkers for the most part, going to new places if you like a little travel
Cons
Unfair pay for skilled/hazardous labor, long hours if you don't need them, pretentious vets

I love it
Veterinary Technician (Current Employee) - Dallas, TX - August 31, 2023
I got burnt out at my last clinic and hated management so I switched to Vetco and love it. Love my clinic and staff and the ability to work at the different locations. I wish they had more clinics opened so I had more options to transfer.

Okay
Receptionist (Former Employee) - Redlands, CA - August 22, 2023
Working here is okay. The staff can be clicky, but there was never a major issue. One thing I've noticed from working here is that a client is never at fault. Even if you're told to do something a client ends up not liking, they'd be apologized to, and told that staff will do better next time, if a complaint was made, and you'd be made the bad guy. On the topic of growth, there really isn't much unless you become a tech, doctor or manager. And techs here make squat for what they do and how much schooling they have. Other than that, some clients can be great, and they're the ones I miss the most!

Good starter job, not a lot of growth opportunity
Veterinary Assistant (Former Employee) - Mesquite, TX - August 13, 2023
I worked with their mobile vaccination clinics. Management was for the most part hands off. Good compensation for the job but very few growth opportunities.
Pros
good work life balance, okay compensation for the job
Cons
no growth opportunities unless you transfer to their GP locations

Quantity over quality sums up Vetco
Vet Tech (Current Employee) - Kernersville, NC - August 2, 2023
Since purchasing Thrive, Vetco has pushed away both Dr.s,lead tech, manager and too many techs to name. Between a call center in another country and online scheduling, we’re consistently doubled and tripled booked. This is by far the worst run company I personally have ever worked for. Stay away!!
Pros
4k bonus, had good Dr.s
Cons
Everything

Great coworkers, management doesn't care
Greeter, Clinic Advisor (Former Employee) - Rochester, NY - July 8, 2023
Loved my team and the people I worked with but there were always issues with management. They care more about selling product than how it would effect the animals while not sending us enough vaccines.

Wouldn’t recommend
Customer Advisor (Former Employee) - Redondo Beach, CA - June 27, 2023
I was excited to work with animals but unfortunately the job was very unorganized and we didn’t get any set breaks or lunches. This caused lots of tardiness and absences.
Pros
Work with animals
Cons
Little pay, no breaks and lunches

Not a healthy work environment
Veterinary Assistant (Former Employee) - Minneapolis, MN - June 22, 2023
I was with this company for almost two years. There is opportunity for advancement if you're interested in business administration and/or management. As far as veterinary medicine, there is minimal exposure or growth. The most you will do is draw up vaccines and restrain animals all day. 50% of your shift is dedicated to driving, setting up and breaking down clinic. You set up in the middle of Petco store aisles. With no barriers to separate the clinic from regular customers shopping. Customers would regularly walk in the middle of clinic set up to grab items, which was very unsafe. Appointment times were difficult to keep up with. We started at 7 minute appointments per pet. That went down to 6 then 5 minutes plus double bookings. This meant that any appointment that wasn't confirmed was open to be booked again. It was difficult to do exams, pull blood, give vaccines and have conversations with pet parents in 2.5 to 5 minutes. This would cause us to run behind on appointments. The DVMs are the reason I stayed with Vetco for so long. I had the opportunity to work with DVMs from different backgrounds and experiences. If you're interested in working with animals but don't plan on going into vet med this is a good way to into the animal field. If you're interested in going into veterinary medicine I wouldn't recommend this company. Conclusion: Overworked with unrealistic expectations from corporate. Profits are prioritized over animal or team member's wellbeing. Unsafe and unhealthy work environment.

I hope you make the boss happy or the whole team will come for you!
Veterinary Assistant (Former Employee) - Brentwood, TN - June 18, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The animals! The animals are absolutely the best part!!! What is the most stressful part about working at the company? You’re coworkers! If you don’t fit into the click your doomed! What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Stressful! The animals are great but the staff isn’t! What is a typical day like for you at the company? You drive to the location and set up your clinic. When customers arrive you find out what the animal needs and you enter that into your computer then take the animal to the vet.

Eh
Veterinary Assistant (Current Employee) - Phoenix, AZ - June 15, 2023
It was step up to what I was doing but this company as ruined my mental health. It feels way to corporate. We don’t get paid enough to deal with aggressive animals/clients. I no longer feel safe working on two person runs.
Pros
Puppies
Cons
Two person runs Decrease in mental health Poor management

Basic
Vet Assistant/Receptionist (Former Employee) - Riverside, CA - June 8, 2023
Vetco cant keep their employees because of their low pay and benefits. Work is pretty easy and basic. Good start to get in the vet field , definitely not a long term job as you will not learn anything new unless you ask doctors. But you are pretty much stuck doing the same. Vetco doesn’t know how to update their website or know how to contact people when their isnt something isn’t available. Which employees get yelled at for.
Pros
Good experience on handling animals. Good coworkers.
Cons
Bad management, low pay, no room for growth.

Corporate is beyond subpar
Veterinary Assistant (Current Employee) - Grapevine, TX - May 29, 2023
The company mishandled my hiring, mishandled my switch to full time, and because of their mishandling and unkept promises about my status it messed up the insurance benefits I needed by month four. It’s now a year later and my insurance is finally going to start however I’ve had to use all my pto for sick days because corporate refused or has no way to back track the dates to show I was full time starting month three. Because of their mishandling my health has taken a nose dive.
Pros
Easy physically for customer reps
Cons
Working break, low pay, corporates messy

Supportive team
Veterinary Assistant (Former Employee) - Mansfield, MA - May 23, 2023
As with any job there were ups and down but the support you get from your team at this location is amazing. It's slow passed so good for learning and you get Sundays off!

Fast pace at times but good teams make a difference
Customer Service (Former Employee) - Redondo Beach, CA - May 15, 2023
I love that the teams are closely knit even if you're new someone will take you under their wing and teach you, I also love that my manager was supportive when going through rough times and stood up for us when people got angry about something, I only quit because of moving but 10/10 I would love to work here again! The hardest part for me at least is having to turn away pets for Aggression, injuries, illness ETC because the vetco I worked for was only a mobile vaccination clinic, I loved seeing all the puppies and kittens come in at 8 weeks for their first shots and seeing them at 16 for the last set

Good pay but…
LVT (Former Employee) - Sheepshead Bay, NY - May 14, 2023
As an lvt working for vetco the pay was very good but you are overworked until you burn out. 30min lunch, dvms have 15 min wellness appointments and 30 min sick appointments which ALWAYS run over backing all exams up thus creating more work and stress for staff
Pros
Pay, healthcare, 401k
Cons
Short breaks if you get a chance to take one, understaffed, stressful, all about $ and not pet care
