Great People
Assistant Office Manager (Former Employee) –  Columbia, MOMay 22, 2018
The perks and people are awesome. Management could use some work but that's given on a company that has expanded the way it has. As long as you stay away from gossip, you're good.

Life Balance- poor compensation
Senior Loan Officer (Current Employee) –  Columbia, MOMay 20, 2018
The best thing about Veterans United is that you get to create your own schedule. Management doesn't monitor clock in clock out times and you have unlimited PTO. There are many great parties, perks, free lunches and massages.

If you are looking fun vs pay then VU is the place for you. Veterans United has one of the poorest pay structures in the industry. You get a great salary, but its all at a cost. The upside is poor. Also, there are two pay structures. All new hires are salaried. If you have been there over 5 years ago you can be on the commission structure. The commission LO's will get paid 2x what the salaried guys make. So yes the guy sitting in the desk next to you can close the same amount of loans and get paid a lot more.

Watch out, if you are not best friends with upper management then you will not get advancement. A lot of politics at this company be prepared to play the game.
Pros
free lunches, massage, parties

Poorly managed and Zero integrity
Senior Mortgage Loan Officer (Former Employee) –  Columbia, MOMay 20, 2018
Management doesn't care about its people. the only reason it get high scores is because they pay there employees to do so. Management will preach integrity, but will not practice it. if you are not a drinking buddy or a into drugs or part of their church, you will have no opportunity to move up. And if one of their drinking/drug buddies doesn't like you, they will get terminate you. Last not they truly don't care about the Veterans that work them.

VU has great people and overall i would say my time was fine there. However the number of people and ways things were getting does was not the most efficient and generally the may was low and benefits didn't compare with a 1st job or the following company i moved to after vetrans.

Only good for beginners
Sr. SAR Underwriter (Former Employee) –  Irving, TXApril 28, 2018
If you're a professional with advanced knowledge or a higher degree, this is not the place for you. There are no ways to advance here, and they totally discriminate against you if you are over 35, and are astutely aware of actual regulations or how a real polished, fluid company actually works. There are tons of great reviews all over the internet how awesome this place is, trust me, these are from people who have never worked anywhere else.
Pros
Got to work remote
Cons
Overpriced United Healthcare insurance that never covered a darn thing, over worked, unintelligent people, the list goes on.

Don’t work at the CO branch
Helper (Former Employee) –  Colorado Springs, COApril 25, 2018
Integrity is a huge issue at the branch location. There is not a work/life balance. Too much negativity and complaining. Branch thinks the corporate office is a joke. It’s just not worth it to work there and be bullied.
They hate people who smoke and take breaks
Pros
Corporate Office.
Cons

work life balance
Account Manager II (Current Employee) –  Olathe, KSMarch 28, 2018
Veterans United does a great job at work life balance. We work hard, play hard, and enjoy time with our families. Veterans United does simple things like brings a food truck on nice days, to have lunch outside. They also will have nerf gun wars throughout the building just to get your mind off a task at hand, so you're fresh to make sure our borrowers get the service they deserve.
Pros
free lunches
Cons
poor health insurance

Great culture; Low pay with some exceptions
Trainer, Customer Service Division (Former Employee) –  Columbia, MOMarch 14, 2018
Excellent focus on work/life balance. Lots of small perks: t-shirts, meals, ice-cream, parties. The drawback: low salaries with the exception of loan officers.
Pros
culture of kindness and work of the foundation
Cons
low salaries; "being a fun place to work" seems to trump living wage

Great Place to Work!!
Transaction Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Las Vegas, NVFebruary 15, 2018
The company culture, values, and family environment are truly a plus to working at VU. They are also very dedicated to providing a great work/life balance within the company. Coming from a mortgage lender who did about 1% of it's production with VA loans, to a company where 99% of the production was VA loans, was a learning experience that I am truly grateful for and has allowed me to now be well-versed in not only FHA and Conventional loans, but now I know VA loans like the back of my hand as well.

The management team for the company was AMAZING as well! I truly loved working for this company! I strongly recommend Veterans United if you are looking for a position in the mortgage industry.

Great pay and job satisfaction helping veterans, but overall compliance standards for home loans and hours expected to work make it difficult to maintain work life balance.
