Poor executive leaders. 0 Accountability. No focus on recruiting/retaining quality employees. Back stabbing CYA culture. Complete lack of ethics. Cronyism at its finest.

One individual's experience does not determine what another individual's experience will be, so anyone looking to work in this capacity should do their due diligence to find out what the culture/environment is like and decide for themselves if that agency/company is a place they would like to work.

IT Support Technician II (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAJanuary 24, 2019

You can be involved in indicative that help your workplace and your future. Senior Management in nursing services is toxic. Lower management is acceptable.

Probation and Parole Officer (Current Employee) –  RichmondNovember 1, 2018
Managers pick and choose people they want to groom for promotion or specialized units. Hard to get promoted, managers feel intimidated by someone, who is more qualified than they are or has more experience. They will overlook hardworkers and pick the bottom of the barrel to promote. Managers treat employees like children and have no respect for their subordinates. The best part of the job, I can see is when you put your notice in to either retire or leave to go somewhere else.
Pros
State benefits
Cons
No room for growth. Too many cliques

Correctional Officer Sr. (Current Employee) –  Powhatan, VANovember 1, 2018
VADOC is nothing more then a stepping stone in the field of law enforcement. Offenders treated better than officers. You may have 1 or 2 supervisors who know the job and do what needs to be done. Way too much back biting amongst officers. If you're not in a clique you won't get promoted no matter how qualified you are. Zero cohesion amongst officers and a noticeable disconnect between officer and administrative management. This entity is not where the money is at. Policy is followed on a selective basis.
Pros
Overtime.
Cons
Too much to list.

Great place to work. Management is flexible and listens to concerns. Hardest part of the job is being inside prison and confined to one place most of the day.
Pros

Cons
Confined to one room with no windows.

Probation and Parole Officer (Current Employee) –  Radford, VAOctober 10, 2018
Highly intensive and stressful position with demanding requirements set forth by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Management is unwilling to assist in career advancement, career mentoring or act in a supportive role at all.
