this company is incredibly disorganized, will not take accountability for the mistakes made on their end- very unprofessional group/terrible communication.

Disorganized Company

Everyday you learn how bad the organization is in a disarray. Recently learned that they create position for staff that is not even posted for others to apply for the same position. They do not treat all staff equally. They ask for feedback and yet they are unheard. There is no open door policy. Even though they say it, it is not followed through.Vista is going through a very high turnover rate with staff. They are losing staff due to the disconnect between the higher up staff to the direct service staff. Some direct staff do give 100 percent of themselves toward whom they are working with among with the direct staff that should not be there. (Management needs to pay attention to whom) Yet, both types of staff are invisible.Management do not value their staff. The higher up management don't even know who you are. When hired they give you a job description of what your job entails. Expect more and more. Talk about being unappreciated.

Official response from Vista Life Innovations

Sometimes it can feel that things are done without employees’ knowledge, even though we always try to communicate major decisions. There is a lot happening and things are fast moving. At times, we create new positions as a response to an organizational need or specific situation and try to promote someone into that position. We believe in promoting qualified internal candidates, whenever feasible. Many of the recent promotions have demonstrated this. Staffing has been an issue for Vista as well as for most human service employers. Anything you or your co-workers can do to help is always greatly appreciated. Just a note, however, Vista’s turnover rate is great compared to industry standards. Most people like working here. And, we do have lots of ways for employees to provide feedback to their supervisors and leadership. This past summer, we held four different staff focus groups where all staff were invited, and we put them at times and locations (even zoom) that allowed all to attend. We had an anonymous survey, and more than half of the employees responded. The overall responses were very positive. Supervisors also meet with staff to hear their experiences on a regular basis. All staff are encouraged to talk to their supervisor or reach out to the HR Department if they have a question or concern. Hope this helps,- The Vista Human Resources Team

Great mission and enjoyable place to work.

I have worked here for over 2 years and cannot say enough about the mission and professionalism of the agency and staff. The staff are upbeat and friendly, I have learned a lot and grown a lot in my profession. The work is challenging but satisfying.

HORRIBLE Organization

Never seen an organization that treats the direct staff with disgrace. If you are on the lower end, be prepare to navigate on your own.Managers are all about power trips. This organization does have few good direct staff. Rather go to them before managers/supervisors.Direct staff depends whom you are. If you want to do well, the students/members deserve it.Vista will hire anybody. You don't have to do much. All direct staff are treated the same. Doesn't matter if you do well or not. It will not be acknowledged. Vista will not care. They are so short staffed, that they will not fire anyone. Staff comes and goes on their own choice due to the toxic place.

Learned a lot, wish management had done more to support staff.

What is the best part of working at the company?Working with the students is the best part of the job. Many of the people that work there are amazing at what they do. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Lots of responsibilities that seem to change daily. You never get a lunch break. They want you to eat meals with the students. Which is fine, but sometimes you need a break. They are perpetually short staffed and as a result, whatever position you have may have added responsibilities. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Can be quite toxic at times. Not usually in the lower level positions, but definitely higher on the ladder. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Depends on the position. No real down time unless it’s a time when the students go home. Christmas through New Years. Wear comfortable shoes.

It was my first job after college and I feel like I learned a lot. Great place for any one who want to work with young adults with intelectual dissablities.

Great mission, wonderful members but it isn't what it used to be.

Get to work at your own pace for the most partStrong bond with the members, they are the reason we all stay. They are amazing peoplePay is ridiculously low and health insurance is awful!Flexible working hours so very good for family with small childrenRemote work an occasional optionManagement has no insight as to what is happening at the ground level. They continue to hire more managers and rarely acknowledge those who are the foundation of the organization, the direct service staff. So many employee changes that it gets difficult to keep track of who oversees whatIf you don't need this job to pay your bills, it is a wonderful place to work

Pros

Flexible hours Members are great

Cons

Pay and treatment of direct service staff

They will want you to be as flexible as Mrs. Incredible.

Be optimistic but wary. This company has the right idea but its execution is horrendous. Management is completely out of touch with the reality of the direct support positions. I have worked in multiple positions. Myself and coworkers are overworked and underpaid. The ONLY reason anyone stays is for the students and members. There is constantly talk about "we're a team. my door is always open. share your ideas". All for show. People get into this field of work because they care about others but this work environment breaks you. There are more turnovers than a bakery. There is an abundance of favoritism towards senior staff; a new position was created for a senior staff who is in a personal relationship with the director. Lastly, some clients need a lot more support & intervention than what is provided. There should be more training for staff to accommodate. If any of these things won't bother you then this company is for you.

Pros

Connections with the adults we support, There is a lot of options for shifts/days among direct support positions.

Cons

No set breaks, overworked, unappreciated, lack of communication and teamwork, favoritism, lack of diversity among staff, untrustworthy.

Vista does meaningful work and impacts the lives of adults with disabilities.

Vista empowers staff to develop meaningful relationships with other staff, and really gives the sense of teamwork. While working human service definitely has its challenging days, it all pays off when you see the impact on the students/members lives.

Pros

Flexible schedule, engaging staff parties/events, connected to all coworkers.

Cons

Can sometimes be hard to disconnect, although that is in the nature of the work that we do.

This job isn't always easy. It is a lot of very busy hours. But it is worth it. I feel good about coming to work at Vista Life Innovations.

One great thing about working for Vista Life Innovations is the mission is something actually worth working for. I am part of a community, where all of my co-workers are working together toward the same goals I am. I've worked for other companies where, when things go wrong (or even when things go right), there is a lot of finger pointing, shuffling the blame, complaining, and pointless politics. With Vista, I have seen none of that. When something needs done, people jump in to help, even if it's outside their normal job duties. It isn't always easy. It is a very busy schedule. But it is never boring, and, most importantly, it is worth it.

Pros

Lunch breaks are paid. The work is personally fulfilling. I have learned a lot about myself, and how to work toward my own goals in life. It is never dull or boring, there is always something to do.

Cons

It is very busy. My hours are long and full, which can be both good and bad, depending on the day.

Vista has a strong reputation for helping individuals with disabilities reach their highest potential.

Vista has an excellent reputation for helping individuals with disabilities reach their highest potential. Their mission is reflective of the services they offer. I have worked in several positions over the many years I have been at Vista. In my personal experiences, I have always worked with supervisors who were respectful, accommodating, and listened to me when I had issues or concerns. One of the things I enjoy most about working at Vista is being able to use innovative and creative thinking to solve student/member problems and working with a team, which includes the student/member and family, to get things done. They continually look for innovative ways to improve the services they offer. In this field, we are working with people, so it is not a position where you can just 'leave work at work'. As with many human service positions, you are always thinking of the individuals you work with and how to best meet their needs. This is evidenced in the dedication and skill of the employees and how they seek to serve the students/members of Vista.

Pros

Working with the Students/Members, Opportunities to work in different departments within the company, Opportunities for advancement

Cons

At times, you may need to clarify information and seek out communication in order to problem solve

Truth

I am speaking on the behalf on my co-workers that are with me and myself as I am writing this review. We believe in the truth and honesty, which this organization does not display. The organization is big on their mission statement-which is an amazing thing. They are also big on the core values. Yet-they don’t follow RESPECT (absolutely don’t treat all employees equal) Recently, they created positions for employees with out posting it for ALL employees to have a chance to apply. It’s interesting that staff that deserve it doesn’t even have a chance. INTEGERITY-Management and the CEO needs to be honest with themselves before asking staff to be honest with them. Staff has giving up on giving information and input, due to not being heard. LEADERSHIP-To be fair the are some leaders that do listen to others and want to see you succeed. As for other leaders-they are defeated and if they can’t lift themselves, how can they for the staff that are direct service. Finally, ACCOUNTABLITY-Organization speaks of being responsible to others. Once again-the support is not there.Fairly enough, the organization will give you pep talks and empty promises to keep you there. There are some positives-working with the young adults with all kinds of disabilities are what makes the job enjoyable. The hours are flexible- only if they like you. They certainly do not treat all direct staff equal. Doesn’t matter if you are loyal to the organization or worked there for a long time. They will treat you as a nobody. From experience-I know that when I spoke to the CEO about a way to help and benefit -

Pros

See above.

Cons

The organization needs to change for the people who are enrolled in the program
Was this review helpful?

Not like it used to be

Programs are available, but the clients are not diverse. The common factor now is money, so they are not getting the level of experience that the program embodied in the early years. Everything is about brand now, regardless of its impact or efficacy. They try suspect methods, but then hide behind the security of not being medically affiliated.

Cons

Management is looking for their payday

Do not work here

I use to like working here but that changed very quickly. I was never trained and was put into a position that I wasn't hired for. I informed many people that I wasn't trained for the job including my supervisor but no one cared enough to train me properly. They do amazing work for people with disabilities. As far as the employees we are very underpaid and overworked. I see now why people are leaving this company. You also work without a break which is against labor laws

Pros

They do good things for people with disabilities

Cons

You never get a break

Good intentions, but going downhill

In the last 10 years Vista has grown faster than it has been able to manage. Direct service staff are spread thinner than ever and the quality of services and workplace morale have sunk big time as a result. Turnover rate is increasing at the bottom and the top. It seems like there’s a new HR or Finance director every few months now and direct service employees who worked here for years have been leaving abruptly. everybody dreads reading HR posts on the bulletin board now because they’re afraid to see who is leaving next. New employees are hired for a certain position, then get put to work doing a different job to cover for somebody who recently quit and get stuck there for months before management finally fills the gap.The organization needs to slow its growth and get back to doing what it used to do well if it is going to continue to survive. It was a much nicer place to work in 2010 than it is in 2020.

Pros

Easy clients compared to group homes

Cons

Management out of touch, staff spread too thin, turnover rate increasing, low morale

Very welcoming and family oriented

Good company to work for. They care about their employees, students and members. I love working there. I’m happy to work for a zero hostile work environment. ❤️

Productive

My Job at Vista is productive. Typically when I get into work I check my mailbox on the laptop and in person. I always wear my badge going into work. I then talk to my supervisor about what we have to get done for the day.

Students/Members are the reason to stay

Management and work culture is terrible, no communication throughout agency. The only reason I stayed is the schedule is flexible and the members we serve are amazing.

Very fun atmosphere to work in

Loved everyone that worked there. Students were amazing. Learned a lot within the two years I was there. Had a lot of room to grow in the areas that were weak.
