Dread Going In
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Lexington, NC - April 10, 2020
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedVitacost has a lack of integrity. They change too often. They even took away the incentive. The only enjoyable part is being able to see fellow customer service representatives.
Pros
Associates, job security, always pay for 30 hour weeks even when absent
Cons
no work/life balance, high healthcare, incentive, required to work when roads covered in snow and ice

As a customer service representative at Vitacost my position was very rewarding assisting customers with their supplement orders. I learned a lot about the vitamin and supplement industry.

Good, basic job with responsibilities laid out for you.
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Lexington, NC - October 9, 2019
You have good benefits, a relaxed dress code and atmosphere, and you can work OT (overtime) if wanted/needed. Vitacost is now owned by Kroger which has added to the benefits in a good way. Pay is normal for the area, but still difficult to get by on unless you add bonuses and OT. They provide a couple fridges and a break room, the building in NC is in the middle of nowhere so bringing your lunch is crucial. One of my only complaints is there is not much in place (or there wasn't when I left in Dec. of 2018) to help morale or show employee appreciation. The place I work now has a game room, a nap room, regular company get togethers, and treats us like the adults that we are! Vitacost can improve on the strictness of some of their rules which tend to make an excellent employee feel like an 8th grader at times.

Customer Service
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) - Boca Raton, FL - October 22, 2017
There are different branches of CS. The at home agents do little work and get rewarded for it. The in house agents do a lot of work with very little recognition. In house CS manager is a good manager. The at home CS manager should move over and let someone with experience take over.
Pros
Healthcare, the people that work there, the dress code and monthly social events
Cons
Building is old, small and stinky. Pay is too low for the job, nepatism is rampid

sometimes we have pot luck meals
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) - Lexington, NC - September 28, 2017
fast paced with a lot of system issues, sometimes very cruel customer that are use to getting what they want even though they have rules. There is no chance to advance and unless you do something wrong, you get minimal training. A very large volume of employee turnover. We are always in training mode because people quit daily or at least, in short amount of time.
Pros
A place to find employment quickly
Cons
not always fair and the turnover is large and the training is not the best in the world

Very young company
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Lexington, NC - June 24, 2017
Being on the chat and email team was very fun. I was extremely productive. The customers on the phone, especially the ones from other countries, felt like they could talk to you any way they wanted, /a lot of times you go home very stressed from the day. The company was just starting out at the time I worked there and just starting to grow. Everyone was trying to find their place and their management style.

It was a job
Customer Service Agent (Former Employee) - Spanish Fork, UT - May 24, 2017
Unfortunately my experience with this company was not a happy one. While the job itself was not a struggle for me and I enjoyed the work, the management (except for our supervisor who stood up for us) was very distant and not concerned with our security. It was clear for example that they were going to shut us down (by shipping extra furniture to another site and not expanding like had been discussed for months), yet all the time was telling us "nothing is wrong, everything is OK"....it came as so surprise when our boss got us on the phone and told us we were being shut down and everyone was getting laid off. I understand that can be a complicated process and not easy on anyone, but being lied to for months like that stings nonetheless.
Pros
Great people to work with
Cons

Very misleading and HR sucks!
Full Time Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Lexington, NC - November 29, 2016
Management leaves something to be desired for sure! HR is horrible and seems to be getting new hires every few months. Worked Full-time for this company and not once in my time there did I feel there was a support system in place for advancement. Felt stuck and that was very discouraging. Pay was decent and had to work all the time. No separation from work or home life, at all. Definitely brought the stress home with me. Sick days--lets face it you don't get any. When you do have to take it for actually being sick, you're treated as if it's your fault for being sick. Notes are requested from a doctor but it's THEIR discretion on whether it's going to be excused!? What's the note for if not to excuse an absence??
In closing, I did love my job. I love this career field and being able to make people smile and laugh. However, if you need a "job" then this is perfect for you. Believe me, they're hard to come by. But as a long-term career--in thiat place?-- not happening!
Pros
Make great friends and lots of money(if full time ONLY)
Cons
Management/HR staff, bad policies for employees

Horrible Place to work
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) - Lexington, NC - July 21, 2016
They act like your a slave to them. You can't request time off, even when it's a month in advance, they work you 12 hour shifts with only 1, 30minute unpaid breaks, and 1 15 minute break. On your feet all day. Management is poor, and there is no leadership only bossy bosses. Everyone that works there is unhappy, unless you get salary. They don't care about the manual labor workers. The call center people get paid 12$ to sit on there butts, while we do all the heavy manual labor. Doesn't make sense. It's ridiculous, we shouldn't get paid less when we do more work! We go home with blisters on our feets, Back pains from bending and lifting. Yet we get paid less than the ones who answer the phones? It's messed up, and my co workers and I aren't happy about it.
Pros
Lots of hours
Cons
Everything else

working for this company was a big headache
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Lexington, NC - July 12, 2016
This company was very unorganized and didn't care about their employees at all. The pay is not competitive and they hire all of their friends and family

This was a very stressful environment.
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Lexington, NC - May 9, 2016
The management was not very organized in the workplace. The company would send out coupon codes that were expired, this happened at least twice a month. This would result in hundreds of customers calling in upset because the codes were expired. Supervisors would not take calls from irate customers, even when the customers would specifically ask for a supervisor or manager. If the call queue would become backed up during your lunch, supervisors would come to find you in the break room or in the parking lot to have you clock in and work the phones. Also, while taking multiple phone calls daily, you would have to multi-task researching emails of customer complaints and live chat messages.
Pros
We received $20 gift cards at Thanksgiving.
Cons
expensive healthcare, not enough staff to manage the telephones

Enjoyable, and educational
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) - Lexington, NC - July 15, 2015
A typical day at work is placing orders for customers over the phone, helping customers navigate the website, and helping place refunds or replacements.
I learned a lot from my job. How to properly gauge customers over the phone, and lots of product information. Vitacost.com is a website that is for healthy lifestyles. Management does alright, they're constantly trying to make great improvements. I thoroughly enjoy the co-workers at Vitacost.com. The hardest part of the job can be when we are extremely busy, and we can't seem to catch a break. The customers are agitated, and so are we. You just have to learn to handle it properly. Enjoyable part of the job is the gratification you receive from making the customers experience better.
Pros
Healthcare, Paid Time Off, Benefits
Cons
Pay

Fast-paced call center,
CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT (Former Employee) - Lexington, NC - March 25, 2015
Continuous calls for placing orders for products.
I learned to patient in order to help customers who were having
difficulty ordering what they wanted.
Management was good but could be a little scattered at times and
help was not readily available.
Co-workers were good, got along well with them.
The hardest part of the job was not being able to help customers who
did not have a computer. Since company was a dot.com business
we could not set up an account for them.
The most enjoyable part was being able to help customers and
provide great customer service. I was able to build a clientele
who wanted me each time they called.
Pros
Provided catered lunch for those working on Thanksgiving
Cons
Not always getting off phone when scheduled breaks/lunch came around
