Generally, there is a panel 3-5 interviewers, some from the functional area, some from management, and usually one person you may never see again. Some positions have a skills test.
Being a law enforcement agency, there are restrictions related to citizenship, drug use (even if it is legal in the jurisdiction), financial problems, and prior legal trouble.

Expect a polygraph test, and don't think you're going to beat it. They generally want honesty over a spotless record. There are some things that will instantly disqualify you, but they are usually mentioned ahead of time, and you can probably guess what they are.
