Drive to a specific job site and start working at am, and until 1 pm for lunch. Lunch lasted an hour, then back to work until 5 or 6 pm. Work consisted of a lot of manual labor and using heavy machinery like bobcats, jack hammers, and concrete reciprocating saws.
Professional environment, friendly atmosphere, knew what was expected.
Assistant Principal, Instructor, Career Coach (Former Employee) – Stanley, NY – October 19, 2014
The atmosphere at the Finger Lakes Technical and Career Center was positive. There were nay-sayers as are found in most work environments though. The budget provided the hardware to do your job efficiently. There were monthly staff meetings to keep the staff informed of events taking place that provide plenty of advance notice of upcoming events. The success of our Center was due to staff that was happy and content. The administrative staff were as honest and forthcoming as was allowed by a given set of circumstances.
High degree of honesty and a very good system of communication.
The negative people although few in number, could affect the mood of the building if they were not put in their place.
Youth Specialist (Former Employee) – Detroit, MI – August 26, 2014
A typical day at this inner city detention center included an 8-hr. shift of regimented order in every activity scheduled with a Positive Peer Culture, (PPC) overlay. My job consisted of maintaining order among the youths, helping direct Positive Peer Culture Group, problem solving, interactions; while supervising them through their daily routine. I learned that when staff work together better results occur. Management changed this detention center from a place of riots, and no structure,to a place of order, and strength. My co-workers and I got along well. The hardest part of this job was the commute to work. The most enjoyable part of this job was talking to the residents and trying to interact with them in a manner that they could hear some of what I was saying to them and hopefully avoid continuing in the current self-destructive path that they are in.
Order with residents was a good change from most places.

Self Employed being my own boss (Former Employee) – Okolona, MS picked up load 300 yards from home – June 18, 2013
typical day in the drivers seat was very interesting. Learning my way around our great nation, site seeing and getting paid for it. Meeting people of different cultures and having time to carry on a conversation with them as we worked. Having to manage expenses, time and documentation at same time. Learning faster is not quickest but persistent and dedication will prevail in the long run. But hardest thing for me was being away from family for extended periods of time.
