I worked for this company for about 6 years. At first I thought this company was great. But true colors slowly emerged. I don’t want to say this can’t be a good place to work or make good money, but it depends on the department you are in and the people you know here. They love to tell you that if you work there, work hard, go the extra mile and do your time there will be promotions and pay raises. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. This company was a privately owned company for a long time and upper management operates off the buddy system so it’s all about who you know not what you know. Managers and Engineers have a bad habit of doing there best to dodge responsibility and place blame on employees who were just following instruction from said managers or engineers. One of the worst traits I noticed from a lot of upper management and engineers is the ( it’s not my job) mentality. A select few managers and engineers regularly preferred to talk down to employees and be pretty disrespectful when it was completely uncalled for. They claim to have a good work life balance, but they are western first and that’s it. Westerns motto is ( Safety First) and for along time I believed they at least had that going for them but I was wrong. They follow ( safety first) if it’s within budget. I have seen them sacrifice quality safety equipment all in the name of a dollar. This facility has had several incidents and the most recent was the worst. It destroyed several areas of the facility and every safety system that was in place to control and prevent this type of thing failed. Themore... day after the incident they required us to report to work before hazmat test results were even complete. There was talk of updating safety systems, updating the facility and updating Written SOPs. But there was not so much of that. They moved forward doing things the same old way, operating new systems without updated SOPs and putting people’s safety at risk once again. Now, there are a select few managers that are good, look out for their crew, do their best to keep them safe and try to be the voice of reason. But a lot of the times they just get steamrolled. I made a lot of friends at this company and there are good people there. But as stated upper management is the issue, and be prepared to document your work and defend yourself a lot.less
Supervisor (Current Employee) – Tampa, FL – July 17, 2018
I am a supervisor in Tampa. I have been enjoying working for Western. Safety, speed and quality are very important. I work with my manager, we try constantly improve on things. Some of our machines and machines could use some upgrade. The benefits are good, the dental and the 401k are outstanding ( I was able to afford 3 crowns in a year) and they allow you to take occasionally loan against your 401k. Health insurance is bit expensive but the company covers many of the cost increases. You also get big discount if you are non smoker. The work is not easy and not everybody can do it. Vacations times increase based on years of being employed you get a week off already after a few months.
The atmosphere and management are good
Some plants could use some upgrade in, Occasionally little stubbornness on technical lines
I was hired as an intern and it was a great experience. Loved working in the dept. and management was awesome. Once I gain more welding experience, I would love the opportunity to work with here full time
Western International is a nice place with great people to work with and good managers but I myself do not see myself there for the rest of my life or for 2-3 more years. I like the job and the people I just don't see myself growing or going anywhere within the company it is difficult at times to get a raise or be noticed for a raise. I am willing to put in the work and they have seen that which is why I've been moved to another department to help clear things up.
Great people, nice and comfortable
Exposed to weather which i don't mind but my worst con

This is by far the worst place i have ever worked. Doesnt matter how hard you work or how good yo u work because you will be treated the same. They dont care about the people who work for them, even though they are the people making them money. You come to them with a problem, which they encourage you to do, but yet they give you the response "well i understand where yo u are comingfrom",then do nothing about it. The management and people who run this place are sneaky and only follow up on things if it is convienant to them. They tell you that you matter but behind youre back it is a completely different story. They talk down to you and are completely ignorant to the people that work there.Wouldnt recommend my worst enemy to work here.

Western is a very bad place to work. They take advantage of their workers and the manager harasses them constantly. They don't take care of workers and would rather replace you so they can keep the pay low
