Not an employement destination
Parts Specialist (Former Employee) –  Boise, IDApril 26, 2018
A typical work is busy and fast. There are few training moments that is when you get trained it is a partial training and more learning on the go. No true support. When issues arise management accuses and blames instead of teaching to improve employees. The management team does not lead from the front but hides and listens to rumors and accusations. The company is very political and hard to work for. The hardest part of this job is working with others to get work done. There is no looking forward only their way.
Pros
Good pay.
Cons
Poor benifits, political, impersonel

Horrible
Parts Warehouse (Former Employee) –  Missoula, MTJanuary 11, 2018
Management was so ridiculous to deal with. If there was a concern no one cared because They like to avoid conflict. And when you needed help no one would help, management just sat in their office all day. Too much paperwork that usually all ends up being recycled. Too many returns. Warehouse job is probably the most demanding job in the parts department and you’ll get under paid, no room to move up in the company. Great company but management is so poor.

Area Sales Manager (Current Employee) –  Pasco, WADecember 7, 2017
See star rating. The firm has too many managers in place, poor training pertaining to systems, and unclear processes. The sales, service, support procedures are overly complex and slow down the sales process.
Pros
Quality product manufacturer
Cons
Complexity and micro managed procedures

Western States can be a great place to work.
Employee (Former Employee) –  IdahoSeptember 7, 2017
Like any company with 800+ employees and numerous areas to work in, some areas can be better to work in than others. Overall I think this organization is a decent place to work.

They Treat You RIGHT and have a VERY bright future!
Training Manager (Current Employee) –  Meridian, IDJanuary 25, 2016
Top tier compensation, excellent benefits, great work/life balance and a collaborative work environment. It's refreshing to work at a place that truly values you as a person and encourages your input on business operations.

It's easy to see why they have low turnover and a decent number of employees who have worked their for 20-30+ years. I know that I'm certainly not looking to go elsewhere!

Hard to get in from the outside, but tons of opportunity for internal development and promotion once you get your foot in the door.
Pros
Culture, Values, Promotion, Training, Benefits...
Cons
Pay is good for the area, but could be a little more competitive nationally.

Avoid like the plague
rental (Former Employee) –  United StatesDecember 26, 2015
Worst experience of my life. I got hired on as a recent college grad last year and was excited to start a new career at this company I had previously heard great things about. Upon arriving at my assigned location, I was immediately treated like an outsider and was told by my boss that "you gotta make it work" and "it's all up to you since they've been here longer." No wonder they couldn't get anybody to stay there. Also, you were expected to work 12 hour days without exception. The people at the headquarters are pretty nice though.
Pros
Matching 401k
Cons
No breaks, 12 hour days.

This company is very set in there ways.
Accounting Specialist II (Former Employee) –  Meridian, IDMarch 6, 2015
This company can not see in to the future. When they bring on new employees because someone is leaving, they leave it up to the person leaving to train. Supervisors are not hands on until something goes wrong then they just want to blame people, instead of fixing the problem and making sure it doesn't happen again. They are not open to change. Most of the employee have been there for years and are very set in there way's. Advancement is who you know and not what you know. It's not a young company.

No Leadership leads to low expectations
Rental Business (Former Employee) –  RegionalDecember 1, 2013
I wouldn't recommend working for this company... Lots of "lights and gimmicks" to make you think you are valuable, I worked there 4 years, and saw a revolving door of employees leaving for various reasons mostly management was so disconnected from reality it lead to a poor work environment. Lots of unhappy co-workers. This probably the worst work environment I have ever been a part of, we all felt as if today could be the last and were just a number...everyone was replaceable.
Pros
steady paycheck
Cons
over worked & under appreciated
