Physical Therapy Assistant Student (Former Employee) – Colonial Beach, VA – March 7, 2019
While I learned a lot from my Clinical Instructors, I can say that after my clinical rotation at Westmoreland I will not be seeking employment at a SNF ever again. The DOR was incompetent to say the least, easily being 3-4 weeks behind on her PT eval documentation (she only did evals, no daily treatment sessions), to the point where I was completing a patient's discharge paperwork before she completed their evaluation. She "worked from home" at least 2-3 days of the week (she commuted 1.5 hours from Chesterfield, VA), during which time she still did not complete her paperwork. The entire patient caseload fell on my Clinical Instructor, an LPTA, who put his license at risk every day because he was treating patients sometimes without even knowing what their diagnosis was. The facility was constantly understaffed and required additional nursing staff to make sure patients received the proper care. On many occasion, my patients were not bathed, helped out of bed, and left in soiled briefs until I went to get them for their therapy appointments and had to do the bathing, dressing, and transferring on my own many hours after it should have been done.
great Clinical Instructors, patients with various ailments
Incompetent DOR, understaffed, distance from my residence ~1.5 hour drive
