great place ,bad manager
SHIFT SUPERVISOR (Former Employee) –  98 sand dock rd poughkeepsie n.y.12601October 24, 2018
not family oriented, expected to work long weeks ,schedules change at the drop of a dime and no appreciation. No accountability for upper management decisions. Shift Supervisors are over worked and under valued. This statement is based solely on the only location I worked at not the entire company and the other managers prior to this one that I have had the pleasure to work with.
Pros
great pay, great people
Cons
self serving managers, long hours, always short staffed, not a great manager employee relationship

Utility Operator (Current Employee) –  Poughkeepsie, NYSeptember 28, 2018
Work is hectic. You run for 12 hours with only a 30 minute lunch break. They've gotten into the habit of hiring people with degrees for the position above mine, despite me being qualified for 3+ years. I end up training people that will be taking my promotion.
Pros
Good pay, benefits
Cons
No work life balance, hectic, no room for advancement

Mechanic (Former Employee) –  Portsmouth, VANovember 12, 2018
Long story short, I would never work there again. Upper management is sorry. Barely want to give breaks. Force you to work without caring if you have outside life situations.
Pros
Good coworkers and a few supervisors
Cons
Horrible upper management, Short breaks, Forced overtime, Lack of compassion

Crane Operator (Former Employee) –  Baltimore, MarylandJuly 4, 2018
I've had a good experience there, but management and ownership changes was starting to become a little difficult. I worked for Whiting-Turner in 1983 to help build that plant.
Pros
The money is good and no layoffs
Cons
Some areas in the plant you have to work with caution

Control Room Operator/Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Westville, NJOctober 16, 2018
good co-workers, generally not a bad place to work as long as equipment is running good. Good location, near large city and rural life. Safety minded company with adequate safety training.

Purchasing Analyst/Senior Accountant (Current Employee) –  Auburndale, FLMay 15, 2018
Great company to work for... Great foundation... Original management group with great influential skills, and would say individuals with the capacity to influence and manage without the need to intimidate, The type of leaders that project confidence and do not underestimate the capacity of the subordinates, always looking to make sure that everyone's opinion is accounted for.

They just dont care
Utility Operator (Former Employee) –  Bridgeport, CTMay 10, 2018
Then workers where very nice and the work its self was good for the pay which was quite nice. After that you had to deal with supervisors that at time where completely incompetent, sometimes anti-semetic and often just nasty to the workers. How many times can a supervisor get away with calling a workers wife a dirty name (cant say what was said this site censors), management thinks it is fine and all in good fun, grow some skin and get back to work.
Pros
pay
Cons
Nasty work environment put on by the supervisors.

Utility Operator (Former Employee) –  Concord, NHJuly 12, 2018
Twelve hour days, rotating day to night shift, four to six day stretches with a day off, alot of stress. You'll have no life, but the pay is great. The benefits package was pretty affordable.
Pros
Huge paydays
Cons
Long hours, rotating day and night shifts.

I love my time at Wheelabrator and the chance that I was given to prove myself. You get thrown in the deep end of the pool with regards to learning the job but it was all worth it.

You will look back and wonder why you chose to spend your life at work
Plant Operator (Former Employee) –  Tampa,Fl.March 8, 2018
Money was great - and that is about it. The employees are the best part of the job - you get to work with humorous , intelligent people that have it just as bad as you do. Advancement is not a problem at this company but YOU WILL HAVE NO LIFE !! Ask yourself how much of your life are you willing to trade for $$ ? You will end up giving up more than you think... I know I did.
Pros
You will never worry about money again
Cons
You will never have a social life again

Power Plant Utility Operator (Current Employee) –  Bridgeport, CTApril 25, 2018
Although a good company to work for. the 12 hour shift can run you down. Shut down periods and unexpected outage can cut into your family life. Your normal work schedule is 12 hour day
Pros

Asst. Utilities Operator (Former Employee) –  Portsmouth, VAFebruary 21, 2018
Management was poor. Didn’t care about its people. You’re just a tool to be used. Wouldn’t recommend working here unless you know it is only a temporary job
