Caregivers if all staff show up for their shift 1 caregiver to 19 residents. If short staffed which is normal 1 caregiver to 27 or 28 residents. Med passers pass meds for up to 33 residents

If facility is at max capacity for residents, there would be 1 caregiver for 20 plus residents and this is because other staff calls in sick, doesn’t show up, walks off the job, any number of reasons. You cannot provide quality care when caring for this many residents at a time. There are med passers as well and their job is to pass medications for 20-25 residents per shift, if there isn’t a second med passer available to work you get to pass meds to 40 some residents. Management refuses to get train as either caregiver or med passer because they don’t want to fill in when needed so they use the trump card “we haven’t been checked off to give cares or pass medications. The office assistant is trained to do both caregiver and med passer and refuses to come into work and help out when short staffed. There is suppose to be 4 caregivers scheduled which means a caregiver working 1 hall and 2 med passers which means they pass meds for whatever side the are assigned, however, there is rarely enough staff to provide proper cares.
2 caregivers to 21 residents. A float caregiver for 3/4 hrs to help the other 2 caregivers.
