The truth of whitlock here in Washington dc / Ashburn
The company is going through new management. I was a current employee for this company. My role was to lead technicians and projects to the best of my knowledge. My issues with this company was that they would hire project managers and other managers for sales and managing projects. The biggest issue was they get new hire's to manage projects and they do not have any experience of AV. Managers with sales experience have never sold or seen what a basic AV system looks like. Then is up to you the lowest paid individual person to train, teach and, run the whole project because they don't have a clue about what is going on. They always wait for the last minute and that is why they have lost so much business. I was always in person handling customer interactions on a daily basis. The customer would explained the horrible leadership and business oriented that the company is doing. My responsibility now is to calm the customer and handle the fire that was given from management. Currently this office has a favoritism environment at the ASH-BURN VA office. If you are not part of a certain group you will not advance or you will loose your job. I feel that corporate will need to investigate this issue an make changes.
Pros
You will received a pay-check every two weeks.
Cons
Management/ Really LOW PAY! For the stress that you need to deal with.

Descent company to work for. Needs to back up its Field techs a bit better
Company has a great structure. Great Regional managers that will listen. Unfortunately, Regional managers hands are tied. Whitlock needs to have better training offerings for their their techs to be able to advance. Certain facilities that contract the field techs are horrible. One in particular out of Ft. Lauderdale, is one to be less desired.
Pros
great pay, work life balance.
Cons
Needs to back up their field techs and listen to their gripes.

Bad middle management.
I was rarely confident that the manager I directly reported to had a strong understanding of the technical work I was required to perform. Very disorganized as a company--frequently was dispatched to client sites without adequate client information, details of prior A/V install, line drawings, etc.

Stay away unless you don’t mind wasting away while your there
Not much to say. The worst part of this company is the egocentric management. It’s all about them. Everyone else is just there to satisfy the management until they don’t and then they are no longer employed

High Paced work environment
Whitlock is a high paced Audio Visual integrator. With many companies in the Silicon Valley they are very involved with the high tech industry.

Challenged Inconsistent Culture
Challenged in most areas adhering to their Mission Statement and stated ethical ideals. Poor employee development, communication and cultural understanding. Rapid expansion resulted in significant customer struggles, distant and unaware executive leadership and an inexperienced and ever-changing management team.

Poor Growth
Unfair toward labor and productivity. For example: Say an employee worked 8 hours a day, for $13 dollars an hour. Each day, he/she built 10 rooms. A co-worker, whom is paid the exact same, builds 6 rooms a day. The company in contract, request a minimum of 2 rooms a day. However both employees exceed the company's required builds. Whitlock would grant them with an exceeds in their annual review, with the same dollar raise.
Pros
reimbursement for certifications
Cons
Poor Communication. Poor Motivation etc.

Not a bad place to work
Good people who promote a culture that they really believe in. Unfortunately it is truly only enforced when convenient. Management has a tendency to over reach and over escalate at times.

Bad Management
Problem with this company is management and how delusional they are. Everything is politics where only a select few are treated fair. They don't live up to their mission statement or principles and lie and say they promote from within, when they don't. Typical work day is hectic and work load is extremely high. Work load is not balanced with CSR role compared to a Program Manager. They push the "culture" agenda hard but the "culture" is very fake. Only enjoyable part of this job is some of the people I have meet and worked with.

Very accurate reviews
Folks, do not be deceived. The reviews you read are very accurate. Whitlock is delusional about what their true culture is. It is very juvenile and full of gossip. There is no formal training everything is independent study. People are always short and on edge. You ask a question, people bite your head off. Very hypercritical environment, no respect for people and their positions. Very little management support or guidance. Long work hours. High expectations with little reward. Many people work 10-16 hours a day trying to keep their head above water. Very high turnover, complex processes that don’t work and right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.
Pros
Fee lunch
Cons
Long work hours, high stress low wages

Lack of Training and Support
The Durham location for Whitlock has been known over the years to let groups of employees go. They change management a lot and each new management team makes massive changes. The project managers do not follow policies but expect others to enforce the work load. Very difficult position to be in. Customer Service was all let go so what does that tell you. Just about every Technical Operations Coordinator was let go for some apparent reason. Not a very good culture or company to work for.
Pros
Nice Office
Cons
No Advancement - Poor Management

Fun atmosphere with good culture
Overall, I feel that Whitlock provides an excellent, team based, culture. I would highly recommend it to an engineer, solutions designer, or a project manager. However, I would not make the same recommendation to someone in sales, unless they specifically had industry (IE: "audio/visual sales") experience. Learning the industry is much more difficult than any I had experienced in the past, and the sales goals do not align with learning curve that is necessary for the industry.

Strong, growing company with a customer centric culture.
Whitlock has a strong, customer centric culture. They do what is best for their customers. It is a fast paced, growing environment. The team of people who work there are amazing and all work hard to partner with each other to get the job done.
Pros
Great work environment. Management cares about the employees
Cons
Company on a whole does not monetarily value their employees.

Job Culture
It is a job.
Whitlock doesn't really care, but it isn't to the point where it's ultra detrimental, as most people work in small teams on location. The downside is when it comes time for promotions, raises, and other considerations, the people making those decisions have little-to-no contact with the employees they are making these decisions about. The job was not hard and it was decently compensated. Nothing too awful, nothing too great. It was just a job.
Pros
Not too stressful
Cons
HR and upper management has no exposure to you

So much change to save the money for the company, there is no real loyalty from management to the employees. There is nothing more needed to be said about this company.

Revolving door
This company goes through a lot of turn over all of the time. They clean out management and try and start over. Employees are fired for no real reason and they do not like to hire nor keep older people. I was given directives from my current manager and a new manager came in and did not support those directives. Its a good ole boys mentality with the project managers.
Pros
Nothing just standard.
Cons
Poor management, project managers think they run the place and hide a lot of things they do wrong.
