The Wikimedia Foundation is a terrible place to work. It's completely averse to change, despite management saying they are open to constructive feedback (do not fall into this trap, you'll be shunned by your manager and their followers). They have great values on paper, there is a lot of talk about excellence but it's all make-pretend. You'll see new hires coming and going, frustrated that they are at the place with the best mission ever but the worst workplace culture. If you care about your skills and careers, think twice.
Pros
Flexible hours, travel, mission
Cons
Vague goals, politically charged environment, averse to change, bad practices

great mission
Community Capacity Manager, Education Team (Former Employee) –  RemoteMarch 20, 2019
Great mission: most of the employees are highly dedicated to it. Management is mostly transparent. Work is clearly seen as service to the community of contributors.
Pros
Mission alignment, remote work, global organization

I loved my job at Wikimedia Foundation and was greatly shocked to learn that my contract was being released.

I worked hard for my manager and the team and tried to help them move in a new direction. I guess it was not to be.
