Great place to work until it’s not
Dental Hygienist (Current Employee) - Washington State - May 21, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWillamette offers one of the best wage and benefit packages out there. Because most patients are on a one year recall, hygienists are required to take x-rays, perio chart, and remove one years worth of stain and calculus within a 50 minute appointment. The company has chart audits and places lots of importance on paperwork being completed with perfection, but no review for actually calculus removal. Hence, it is a frequent occurrence to find residual radiographic calculus that has been present for several years because hygienists have to spend too much appointment time on non scaling tasks. If you want great benefits, high wages, and a place that doesn’t care if you clean teeth well, Willamette Dental Group is for you.

Dental Assistant (Current Employee) - Gresham, OR - May 30, 2023
Fast pace but manageable, 4/10's, Holidays paid or if it falls on a workday, they add that to your PTO bank, good raises which creates more retention to keep employees.
Pros
Pay, 4/ 10's, Pto, Paid Holidays, 401K and more
Cons
Nothing really. Maybe better health insurance? But it's better than nothing.

Excellent place to find long term opportunity
Talent Acquisition Manager (Current Employee) - Hillsboro, OR - May 21, 2023
The company has been around for over +50 years and follows evidence based dentistry. It is unique that we are our own insurance provider. Meaning we essential bill ourselves for any work being done. This model works well with patients as they get to avoid unnecessary fillings and crowns. The company itself has employees with lots of great tenure and has a stable income model.
Pros
Stability, growth opportunities

Good pay and benefits but it’s not worth it!
Care Advocate (Former Employee) - Longview, WA - May 10, 2023
I loved working for this company at first but by the time I left, I dreaded going to work and was miserable. I switched positions and offices because I hated it and things were still just as bad if not worse I wouldn’t recommend working here to anyone.
Pros
Good pay and benefits
Cons
Toxic office environments, staff gossips a lot and talks about inappropriate things at work, HR doesn’t care. Management plays favorites.

Fun Workers, Poor Management
Dental Assistant (Former Employee) - Tacoma, WA - May 5, 2023
Unfortunately, my experience with the management at this dental company has been extremely disappointing. There seem to be significant issues with communication, organization, and leadership. First and foremost, the communication within the management team is severely lacking. I have witnessed multiple instances where important information was not passed along to the relevant parties, resulting in confusion and delays. Additionally, there seems to be a general lack of transparency, with important decisions being made without any input or consultation from staff members. The organization within the company is also a major concern. There is a clear lack of structure, with no clear chain of command or defined roles and responsibilities. This has led to a chaotic and inefficient work environment, with staff members frequently unsure of who they should be reporting to or what tasks they should be prioritizing. Finally, the leadership within the company is sorely lacking. There is no clear vision or direction, and the management team seems to lack the skills and expertise necessary to effectively lead the company. There is a general sense of disengagement and apathy among staff members, with little motivation or enthusiasm for the work that we do. Overall, I would not recommend this dental company to anyone looking for a well-managed and organized workplace. The poor management is a major obstacle to success and is likely to continue to cause issues for the company in the future.
Pros
Benefits and Fun Co-Workers
Cons
Management and Communication

Great money, heavy burnout
Dental assistant (Former Employee) - Richland, WA - February 28, 2023
Great benefits and pay, with that said..Long very busy, bordering on overbooked days which leads to employee burnout and eventually lower quality dental care. Assembly line “corporate” environment, management favoritism of your “ chosen” clicky, powertripping shift leaders in richland location. Fear based management style.

Health focused
Dental Hygienist (Former Employee) - Lynnwood, WA - February 4, 2023
Good: Huge emphasis on patient satisfaction. Always emphasis on partnering with patients to improve health. No production goals. Always had a DA to chart with me, take x-ray,, turn rooms, etc. Highly collaborative. Many free CE. Nice benefits. Excellent infection control and instruments. Bad: 10hr shifts, no flexibility of hours, appointment times sometimes too short, not super aggressive with srp and annual visit for healthy(ish) patients so sometimes a lot to scale in a short appointment.

Market profit driven employees are expendible
Dental Assistant (Current Employee) - Seattle - January 18, 2023
Employees are pretty much not valued. The pile on the work and they do not really care about the patients. They constantly go through staff so there is a continuous flow of new people who are just learning the system which is caused by how poorly they treat the staff. Money is their main motivation. They also will tell you anything to get you hired.
Pros
Free dental but you wont want to have any dental work done at this place
Cons
Dont get breaks and you are overorked.

Overworked, understaffed and overwhelmed.
Dental Assistant (Former Employee) - Tacoma, WA - September 29, 2022
I've worked with WDG for yrs and they are constantly adding more and more things as far as requirements in order to obtain a bonus and be a "10" when all offices in the company aren't a 10 and it's near to the end of the year it's saying that they're expecting TOO much from their staff and we get penalized financially. They will run you into the ground by their high patient volume and while being constantly understaffed.

Work/life balance, job security, and culture lacking. Some good management while others not good.
Administrative (Former Employee) - Hillsboro, OR - September 5, 2022
I would not recommend working for this company. The company touts great work/life balance as a huge selling point in hiring, but there isn't any work/life balance - there's no ability to take off work when working in a skeletal crew, and there is most certainly too much work to be done. The mandatory breaks are hard to make time for when working due to the amount of meetings combined with work to be done, and breaks were not factored into the daily schedule whatsoever, causing many missed breaks. Job security is lacking. There is a repetitive pattern of unnecessary turnover, straining all other team members. The culture portrayed sounds great at first, but you'll quickly learn that it is a façade, and management doesn't follow through with the culture and values that are said to be followed. There are some really great managers who take the time to work well with employees with the intention to build them up as colleagues, but there are other tenured managers who don't value their team members, don't offer respect to team members, and often talk poorly of team members. One pro is that compensation is extremely fair, but being paid well does not make up for the cons.
Pros
Compensation
Cons
Work/life balance, management, job security, culture

Inclusive company
Assistant (Current Employee) - Hillsboro, OR - August 29, 2022
Willamette Dental works hard to provide inclusive opportunities for everyone. This is by far the most inclusive company in my work experience. I always feel supported by my team mates both within my department and outside of my department. I learn something new absolutely every day!
Pros
Free dental insurance with very low copays for employees

Corporate run
Patient Care Advocate (Former Employee) - Tacoma, WA - July 26, 2022
Accepting tons of new patients but providers leaving left and right. Aren't enough hours in a day or doctors in the building to accommodate the amount of patients they have. Management seems supportive and friendly, but use your words against you to save themselves after making mistakes. Always short staffed and management will not help in the moment when dealing with a difficult patient. The training does not cover everything you need to know and then you are held accountable for things you never were taught to do.

Bottom line driven
Dental Hygienist (Former Employee) - Beaverton, OR - July 12, 2022
Healthcare facilities need to to be profitable, if course, but their metrics for success are unsustainable, and they treat their best staff members as dispensable. If you can ignore management under valuing you, and workplace drama that never ends, WDG is for you.

Clinical Scheduler (Former Employee) - Hillsboro, OR - July 7, 2022
I really enjoyed my time at Willamette Dental. It was a fun and stimulating job that felt much more like a career to me. The management and team were pleasant people with a lot of heart. I felt very cared for as an employee and it only made me want to work harder for this company. I would work for Willamette again in the future!
