Waste of time
Manager (Former Employee) –  Detroit, MIJuly 6, 2019
Willson’s Knowledge of the industry and government regualstions is poor. Manament and ownership is out of touch with reality. Because if the poor pay it is hard to have educated and knowledable employees. Willson takes advantage of desperate and educated people to just have a body at work

Import Analyst (Former Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYMay 11, 2019
Like most corporate places you do all the work with no appreciation, people are promoted by who they know not who is good at there job. They rather bad workers than good ones

Management unprofessional
Agent (Current Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYMarch 16, 2019
Low pay and benifits. Management does not care about the employees except the relatives and lovers they hire. Management is like a soap opera the way they fool a round with eachother. Ownership is pompous and totally out out touch with reality.
Pros
Forces you to search for better job
Cons
Benifits below poverty level. Welfare pays better

Willson is really great
Opperations support clerk (Current Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYJanuary 5, 2019
Willson is the only job I have ever had that I actually look forward to coming to work. The pay is fair for the work that we do. The management has changed since prior reviews and things do run much smoother than before. This place is one big family and we all help each other out with issues at hand. Management is very accommodating for work/home life and flexible with hours. I look forward to my future at Willson.
Pros
Free lunches, part timers get paid vacation.
Cons
Lack communication at times

Difficult place to work
Analyst (Current Employee) –  Southgate, MIJune 23, 2018
Difficult place to work. Willson is very clicking. The benifits are delayed for 90 days after you begin work and the 401 is delayed a year. Vacation time is also delayed a year. There is a lot of overtime because of the high turnover rate. Turnover rate is not because of the low benifits instead because if the employee doesn’t buy into the extreme socialist beliefs then the employee is brow beaten down until either you believe in the lgbt way of life or you are asked to leave.
Pros
It is a job
Cons
Check you morals at the door

Hard place to work
Analyst (Current Employee) –  Buffalo, NYMay 1, 2018
Hard company to work for. No raise after first year or second year. Large turnover because of management and absent ownership. Left company because poor benifits and pay. First broker I ever worked at and I made a mistake by believing the line that Willson was on par in the industry. Now earning much more and better benifits then at Willdon. Any looking for a job should do their best to stay clear of this company.
Pros
It is better than no job
Cons
The company string you along with lies

Compensation lowest in industry
Release Analyst (Former Employee) –  Buffalo, NYApril 13, 2018
You have to work an entire year before you are eligible for 401k and vacation time. Health brmifits start after 90 days. Most other brokers start their being its the 1st of the month after the start day. Vacation time is 2 weeks at other brokers and you do not have to wait a year before you can use them.
Also paychecks are issued bimonthly on the 15th and last day of the month. Industry standard is biweekly paychecks.
Industry standards is at least functional education as at Willson the education level of staff is very low.
Willson for the most part is where newbies start out or where people go after being laid off or terminated by competitors.
Good media reviews are actually submitted my Willson management and I.T. Group

No long term security lt is a revolving door

Enjoyable Work Environment, Great Benefits
Analyst (Current Employee) –  Buffalo, NYApril 9, 2018
Having worked for a few different customs brokers, I can say with confidence that you are unlikely to find a better employer than Willson.

The work environment is enjoyable. Conspicuously absent is the constant feeling of impending dread that you experience when you harbor a seething hatred for your job. Co-workers are friendly & welcoming, with good senses of humor. Work is fast-paced. You don't find yourself staring at the clock and wondering how it is possible that only 5 minutes have passed since the last time you looked at the clock.

Pay is comparable to what you would receive at a large customs broker and better than what you would find at most small customs brokers. Benefits are superior to any other customs broker (or almost any other employer in any industry, for that matter).

If you're tired of working in a soulless environment with "turrible" benefits, give Willson a try. You won't regret it.

Not a great work environment. Manager is not knowledgeable and lacks leadership. Turnover rate is high because of management. Family first only applies to management.

Okay place to work if you don't mind busting your butt for little pay.
Analyst (Current Employee) –  MichiganMarch 16, 2018
Raises are not always given. When you do get one , you will be lucky to get 2% once a year. Its a struggle to get assistance from a manager. Coworkers call off and are late constantly. The turnover on employee's has went up tremendously.
Pros
Can pay your bills

Great Place to Work
Import Analyst (Current Employee) –  Tonawanda, NYFebruary 28, 2018
I've found Willson International to be really nice place to work. Management has meetings with staff every week to go over new items and get feedback from their team. There are monthly employee appreciation lunches and they provide small little incentives to make work more fun. There are not a lot of people that work for the company but it makes for a small little family. Managers are flexible with family issues and will try to accomodate everyones needs. Overall a pretty cool place to work.

Nice place to work
Analyst (Current Employee) –  Port Huron, MIFebruary 7, 2018
Willson is a nice place to work. It socially conscious and supportive of alternate life styles and views. The company gives everyone a job opportunity regardless of their education. Most brokers want the college degree of at least some college but Willson will give you a chance without even a high school degree or how you look. If you want to work and pass the drug screening and background check they will hire you. The unlimited overtime is great and helps. Willson is definitely very easy going and liberal place to work.
Pros
Laid back and open minded

Keeping looking for a better job after accepting offer
Analyst (Current Employee) –  Port Huron, MIJanuary 14, 2018
It is best to have a long term plan when accepting a job offer. This way if you keep looking for a better job while employees at Willson you will not disappointed when Willson does not fulfill the promises given to you when you accept the job offer.
Willson is not s bad place to work unless you want to advance or need the money. If you just want the benifits and could careless about doing a great job then Willson
Is a great place to work. All you have to do is show up, keep you mouth shut, and mind your own business. Management does not want any input and will leave you alone as long as you do not make any waves.
Pros
Easy work and you do not have to think

Do your homework before accepting a job offer
Release analyst (Former Employee) –  Port Huron, MIDecember 31, 2017
Willson promises good benifits and great working conditions when you receive your job offer. Make sure you receive everything in writing before starting. Suggest you get in writing that you will receive a review yearly and what percentage of a raise you will receive.
Job does have a lot of overtime and for this reason the company does usually provide yearly raises or any bonus.
Management is not knowledgeable and if you have a complaint regarding their operations DO NOT go the HR as HR always sides with management. Ownership is out of touch with day to day staff and is only worried about making money.
Pros
Nothing to speak of
Cons
Treated like you are an idiot

Company ranks at the bottom for the industry
Release agent (Former Employee) –  Southgate, MIDecember 6, 2017
Ownership which no idea of what is going on within the release ports. Ownership allows unqualified and unqualified people to run the day to day operations. Ownership has no idea as to what industry standards for benifits or compensation are.
Pros
better than not having a job.
Cons
Low pay, lousy benifits, low knowledge of management.

Troubling
Operations (Former Employee) –  Southgate, MIMay 9, 2017
Accepted a position in March 2017. Actual duties differed tremendously from the job posting. What a disappointment.

Manager spent most of the time gossiping about coworkers telling me their personal problems and medical history. it's very awkward trying to get to know new colleagues and knowing something personal about them, that they don't want me to know.

Manager likes to engage in long winded small talk that has nothing to do with company business. In the meantime, there's a ton of Customs penalties racking up. I see why...the workers are distracted and not properly trained.

There's a huge backlog of unresolved problems, mostly caused by the company. Unsuspecting clients have no idea their compliance standing with U.S. Customs is diminishing.

The record-keeping is horrible, which makes addressing Customs issues three times as long.

I contacted HR about the backlog of work dating over a year and missing records and my significant change in job responsibilities.I was terminated three days later.

Worst Northern Border Customs Broker Around
Import (Former Employee) –  New YorkMay 5, 2017
Any importer/exporter considering doing business with Willson International, you'd better rethink.

Untrained analysts will be assigned to your account. You'll spend weeks resolving errors.

Make good use of your time and select a better managed company to handle your logistics and customs brokerage.

Potential job candidates: You deserve better.
Pros
Unlimited overtime, if you don't have a life.
Cons
No training. Reactive work environment. Be prepared for getting blamed for management mistakes.

Management (Former Employee) –  Detroit, MIApril 2, 2017
Expect to work double shifts and weekends without notice on a regular basis. Management blames everything on the analysts. Records aren"t accurate and / or are incomplete. Turnover is high. Lack of training and communication. This is not a job to take for long term. This is a job to take out of despiration.

Worst broker to work for
Former employee (Former Employee) –  Detroit, MIDecember 1, 2016
Awful company to work for. Management has favorites if you not one of the select few don't plan on staying there long. Training is awful. Way to many hours guilted into staying late. Will get approved time off and then made to cancel time off due to another Co worker calling in sick or going out on disability. Stressful. No one willin to help when have problems or questions
