My experience was you are on call as soon as office closed til they opened in morning. You can not leave property and basically have no life! You can’t fall asleep or you will be fired if the phone rang and you missed it! It’s actually against the law to make you stay on property and can’t even run to store. I felt like a prisoner while on call and in the handbook it says you can do normal activities just be within 30 mins from the place of a call comes in and also if no one else that lives on property can take the calls then they can forward them to a pager or your cell phone.. none of that is true. And if someone calls in sick during anytime of the day and no one else will work.. guess what.. even if u say No they remind you that you are the On Call person therefore you have no choice but to go back to your little jail cell and wait... and wait.. and wait .. you might get 2 calls a night or none... so even though in the handbook it says you will have 20 hours of desk job also that is a lie. Most the On Call people I’ve talked to before me ALL said they dropped all hours from previous positions and made them On Call ONLY! Won’t be long before theirs a lawsuit on their hands! Don’t WORK for the company and especially DONT take ON CALL! Unless you want no sleep and maybe 10 hours IF THAT on your 2 week paychecks! So no benefits, not enough hours to even be on food stamps AND you can’t really get another job because they will demand you at the drop of a hat if someone doesn’t show up or you will be too tired to even go to another job since you don’t get any sleep at night!
