If you've ever felt the need to "Be a Pepper," you can thank Young & Rubicam Brands (Y&R). As the advertising and media services unit of UK-based WPP Group, Y&R has developed memorable commercial spots for many clients, including the well-known tag line of Dr Pepper. Y&R operates primarily through its flagship creative ad agency, Y&R Advertising, but it also offers consulting and marketing services through Wunderman, public relations through Burson-Marsteller and Cohn & Wolfe, and digital expertise through a partnership with VML. Its Landor unit is a brand-building shop, while The Bravo Group is a multicultural advertising agency. Acquired by WPP in 2000, Y&R owns about 185 offices in more than 90 countries.
In late 2011, Y&R announced it will be moving from its Madison Avenue address after residing there for more than eight decades (its New York headquarters opened in 1926). The announcement made headlines throughout the advertising industry since Madison Avenue has become synonymous with the ad business as so many agencies were originally located on the famous Manhattan street. To provide its employees with more space, the agency will move its headquarters to 3 Columbus Circle on the West Side around the middle of 2013.
In late 2010, Y&R received a boost from its parent company when WPP acquired TAXI Canada, an independent advertising agency in Canada, and integrated it with its operations. Having a reputation for providing strong creative work, TAXI owned five Canadian offices and had worked with such clients as Viagra, Yellow Pages, and TELUS. – less
