I enjoyed my time at yacht starship. Pay was good for a serving position. People were usually helpful. Managers did have somewhat of a high turnover.

Very fun workplace, feels like family

I love working for Yacht Starship, when I come to work it feels like I am with family. All team members work closely together and help each other no matter the task. I have learned a lot in a short period of time. The work is not hard at all and the pay is great! I have no complaints I love my job as a server!

Working for Starship Pirate Water Taxi is good, the managers and HR are amazing

Working outside is always difficult, management of water taxi always exhibited care for the employees and their well-being from summer heat to dealing with bad weather a good group of people to work for. They do a good job maintaining their boats and what they can't maintain they pull out of service until it is suitable for use so you're not stuck with compromised equipment they have a strong culture of safety which I I'm grateful for everything they do is in the interest of safety for both operator and passenger.HR department is strong and all was fair showing true concern for the people that work there no complaints.

this is a fun and exciting place to work.

meeting new guest is always fun. THE STAFF IS AMAZING AS WELL. YOU CAN ALSO NETWORK WITH THE GUEST THAT COME ON BOARD. THE WORKPLACE CULTURE IS AMAZING

Great potential to gain experience.

Depending on your job position, the demands are high in comparison to compensation. Higher turn over rate with a non-transparent management team. Way too many managers! Management isn’t always trustworthy or truthful. The owner rarely provides positive feedback, however, always seems to point out the negatives. Based on my personal experiences and observations of other employees, I kinda wish never accepted a job with Yacht StarShip. I would recommend if you’re accepting a position with the company, always have a backup plan, get the experience you desire and then move on! You’ll find the dark side of the company within your first week or two, but it does have the potential to provide an ample amount of experience.

My immediate co-workers are like family and looks for each other

I took the job because it was listed as full-time but it is not. It can not be your sole source of income. Your scheduled hours are dependent on events.

Pros

Meals are free, co-workers are helpful, managers are fair

Cons

No sick leave or vacation time, no dependable schedule

Team player environment, exciting, fun, with gorgeous sunsets every night!

Yacht Starship is a fun, team oriented environment. I have been with them 3.5 years and plan to be there for many more. The management team has supported me and helped me grow in my field of interest by providing me with the tools for success. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fast paced, fun place to work with unbeatable views of Tampa sunsets!

Marine industry job with lots of opportunities

Working on the water in Tampa is a very desirable career. YSS has been and continues to be a great place to work. People who don't get along with others or don't want to really work, don't last long. That's a good thing and something I appreciate about working here. If you do a good job and help others it's appreciated and recognized. If you start washing dishes but want to captain the ship one day... It's possible here. It's on you if you don't realize your goals. Management is always looking to promote you and see you succeed.

Working on the water. Lots of experience can be gained in a short time. Good benefits

Sometimes can be high pressure situations. Weather, customers, short breaks

Fun place to work with good pay

Yacht Starship is a fun place to work and you get to be on the water for the majority of your shifts. Although management messes up the schedule a lot, they are very understanding and will switch you when they do. They are flexible with days you can and cannot work. Pay is fair and 401K has a match but you are not fully vested until a few years after working there. Most of them employees are a joy to work with.

Fun workplace

Haven’t been working there for very long but so far I love it so much! The staff is very friendly and welcoming, the job itself isn’t too challenging, and the office window we have of the boat aka seeing out all the windows in the beautiful bay and beach makes it all so worth it!

Great Company for Full Time or Part-time

Starting with HR and office. They are so nice and helpful. They are open and honest With concerns or questions.This company is great if you are looking for a career or sea time hours to get your MMC.Management is very good at working at your schedule needs.Money is good for deckhands but could be bumped up a couple dollars per hour.My only negative thing about the company as far as the deckhand position on the dinner cruise is uniforms.I like the deckhand uniforms they wear but unfortunately they are very hot in summer time.They are great in Winter Time but they are uncomfortable in Summer Time and get dirty in one day of sweating in it.Even high class yachts, deckhands can wear shorts and polos in summer time when working.Especially in Florida.

Work with schedule, Good Part time job, very nice managers and office personnel, help you get your MMC and hours.

Cons

Pay, hot uniforms in summer for dinner cruise for deckhands.

Great introduction to maritime

It’s hard work, but it’s an excellent opportunity for someone interested in breaking into the maritime industry. You accumulate sea days quickly and the crew is motivated in helping you learn the ropes. I’ve learned a ton about boat maintenance and operation while making some life long friendships and being on the water catching beautiful sunsets. But it’s a job only for those who are willing to put in the work, long hours and are open to on the job training. This position is best fit for individuals with long term career goals in the boating industry

Fun job, but for less than ideal pay, and be ready to be outed by seniority at a moment's notice

The job itself was actually pretty fun, typical marine job on the passenger side with expected marine duties, and while the pay was somewhat low, not keeping pace with inflation, I was willing to overlook it because of the job itself. Pretty standard stuff, clean the boat, make sure it's running well, ensure all guests have a good time, but beware, if you don't fit into the cultural mold, and somebody there more senior there just doesn't like you, they will absolutely talk about you behind your back and get things in motion to out you from the company. HR gave absolutely 0 formal warnings so as to help assist in the adjusting period, and the layoff came just as quickly as the hiring. Railroaded at the last minute by company higher ups despite an assumption of understanding and willingness to work on things to fit in better. The work was always done well, but because somebody didn't like the way I spoke, that was the end.It's no wonder why turnover at this company is so high. Apply if you're a social chameleon, but don't even think about questioning the way things are done there unless you want to gain ill-favor quickly.

Pros

Free meals for each cruise, mostly decent people, nice sunset views.

Cons

Unable to trust anyone as there is lots of behind-the-back politics and seniority reigns here.

Great company to work for!!!

As a bartender and a server I absolutely love my job! The crew that I work with are amazing! Management is always so helpful and ready to answer any questions I may have. And I love the hours and the pay! Plus being out on the water is a huge plus :).

Pros

Work hours, free meal from the galley crew at the end of the night, work on the water, and a great company to work for!

Cons

Moving a lot of furniture, and having to wear long pants, long sleeves, hot clothing in Florida!!!

Good job, bad management, no one ever looked happy

The owner never looked happy and always stressed. Top executives never spoke to the employees and also, never looked happy. There was always a cloud of stress that seemed to blanket the office staff. Sad because the job was fun and could have done good work.

Unique and Great Experience

Since working at Yacht Starship, I have found the experience to be extremely uplifting to my career. I am a graduated hospitality major, and this is the perfect place to get a start in supervising and management. I plan on staying with the company long-term, and can see that it will give me many fulfilling opportunities in the future. It's a fast-paced and ever changing environment, so if you do well with that kind of atmosphere, I 100% recommend trying to work here.

Never-ending adventures with a family of colleagues

My home away from home! I say that because everyone here is family to me. We all look out for each other and we support each other when help is needed. The owners (CEO and Vice President) truly care about the company and most importantly, their employees. I can recall numerous accounts of quiet moments where they've helped team members and the community asking for nothing in return. They encourage team members to grow in their roles and even give them the tools to do so. For example, we had a server assistant work his way up the ladder to become the master captain of our largest vessel.If you're looking for a great place to work with a family of energetic, fun individuals, this is the place to be!
