Part time staff accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Full time staff working 40 hours per week begin accruing PTO (for time off and sick time) at a rate of 7.33 hours per pay period, 176 hours per year. That is prorated for full time staff who work 36 hours per week.

You accrue PTO, it is not separate from sick days. However, when you were sick it was taboo for you take time off. Managers would discourage it by saying they work sick plenty and do small retaliations for missing days.
