Awful ABA Agency
Behavior Coach (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAMarch 3, 2019
This agency is awful and I recommend working for another ABA provider that is smaller. I would first like to start this review by stating that there are no such things as middle management in this profession. If you're not a BCaBA or BCBA, you cannot give clinical feedback and authorize insurance reauthorizations. ASSET works heavily off of this middle-tier concept and it creates a lot of drama, headaches, and confusion. Another reason why you should not work at this company is because the clinical supervisors are heavily overloaded and provide inadequate supervisions to staff (supervisions should occur during sessions with clients, not over the phone). Most supervisors employed through this company only have their BCaBA and inexperience certainly shows through lack of consistency of services to the client's families and training development for staff. I would also be cautious about this company because it's infamous for supervisors writing employees up for corrective actions plans without stating need for improvements throughout employment. The wage at this company is also very poor and even if you have a lot of experience, you're probably not getting paid much more than people with no experience at all. The company really struggles with communication, consistency with protocols and reinforcing employee policies, billing practices that meet insurance criteria (Medicaid fraud), dual relationships, and work drama/gossip. If you're an hourly employee, what little bit of PTO you get will go towards illness, inclement weather, holiday breaks, and client cancellations. The reviews  more... you see are truthful, no one is stretching the truth about this company. The company seems great because there a bunch of nice looking people who present themselves professionally but I can assure you, if you work there for 2-3 months, you will understand that is not the case! If you do plan to work here, I would absolutely not trust any person here.  less
Pros
Basic health/dental
Cons
CEO will spend $10k on holiday parties but pay employees $14-16 hourly

Worst job ever
Community ABA Therapist (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAFebruary 27, 2019
It was very first my ABA position, and I had never worked anything close to the field. The training and preparation for this position was terrible. I was given an extremely difficult caseload starting out. And my supervisor’s caseload was extremely heavy (like 30-40 clients) so they rarely had the time to assist me. My supervisor did they very best they could in helping me. At the time, the system in writing our clinical was pretty outdated so writing notes was very tedious and time consuming. Which is an issue because you do not get paid for writing notes. They were planning to change the programming, but I left before hand, so this may no longer be an issue.

There is a reason this place is like a revolving door
Behavior Coach (Current Employee) –  Richmond, VANovember 28, 2018
There are two good things about this job: for one, you get to help make a positive impact on the lives of children who really need it. Two: the other behavior coaches have your back. That being said, they are the only ones that have your back. This is the most unethical and morally questionable place I have ever even heard of. You earn 3 hours of PTO for every 40 you work. They do not offer paid sick time, you get NO paid holidays, and you get forced to work overtime but do not get compensated for it. You are required to do things outside of the job description you signed for on your contract. The management and transportation administrative people/drivers are petty and unprofessional, and all that you hear all day is gossip and trash talk (from women 40 years and older - NOT from coaches). Nobody has your back. You are the low man on the totem pole and they do everything they can to remind you of that consistently. There are 2 parties a year, and you get a gift card for birthday and Christmas - I am not kidding when I say that is the only perk. You work anywhere from 6 hour to 9 hour days and you get a 15-minute break and that's it. How is that legal? NOT SURE. You are with a toddler with autism for a FULL work day and you have 15 minutes of freedom to eat or use the bathroom. You get in trouble if your personal bag or phone are even in your pocket (so you have no way of contacting literally anybody). You are treated like children here unless you are a manager. People are constantly quitting. This job is not good for anybody's emotional well-being and mental health. They look  more... to hire fresh out of college people - or people without degrees at all - because they think they can get away with what they can with people who may not know any better. The pay is a joke. The center is so unbelievably unsanitary. No employee is taken care of and the wrong ones are rewarded. Do not work here. Do not apply here. You will regret it.  less

Great Starting Position
Behavioral Therapist (Current Employee) –  Midlothian, VAAugust 19, 2018
This job will introduce you into what a behavior coach does.
A typical work day includes preparing for your client. Whether that is through gathering materials or reviewing their behavior plan for the session. The management at the center is not always available. Sometimes you feel as if you're on your own and only have the other behavior coaches to rely on. Management also frequently seems overwhelmed with personal and work issues. Often you over hear gossip about their personal lives during work life. Management also seem overwhelmed with the pressure of the job; client's personal issues; transportation of clients; cleanliness of the work environment; and/or organization of the work place. Many ideas and initiatives are put into place but often are dissipated because there is no management to keep them going. You can ask a manager something and they will literally respond with, “I don’t know” and walk away instead of figuring out the answer.
The most enjoyable part is when the team can come together and provide the best service for the client. Also, when the other behavior coaches step in and help each other out.
Pros
Clients are taken care of, Occasionally provided with lunch, Occasional get-togethers, Birthday Card, Christmas Card
Cons
Pay for uniforms, No paid holidays, No paid snow days, 15 minute breaks for 8 hour days, Low pay, No RBT training, Pay for QMHP, Poor transportation vehicles, Poor sanitation of the center, Poor management

CLINICAL SUPERVISOR, BCBA (Current Employee) –  Richmond, VAAugust 15, 2018
It's a lot different from other places- in a good way. I think that they try to show their appreciation for the workers and practice reinforcing positive behavior. They can overwhelm you with caseloads if you let them. Very genuine staff and no office gossip/drama. CEO is nice.
Pros
a level of autonomy
Cons
a lot of driving

Honest Thoughts
Behavior Coach (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAJune 27, 2018
Good entry level job for someone fresh out of school just needing money and really wants to get experience before moving on. Hours are good for about the first 3 months but dwindle down the yellow brick road after a while (have to pick up extra hours if available). During the interview (inconsistent and all over the place) it's not portrayed accurately. This goes into the fact that the CEO is more about growing in width to get more coaches to get more clients. The CEO is off putting and has no idea of the clinical side. There is obviously un-qualified individuals. and should def. be more SEASONED people overlooking the currents. Which goes into the fact there are a lot of deer in headlights moments especially with compliance and implementation of policies.

You work with cool kids once you get past or not bothered some of the cons that happen within ANY behavioral company (funny but mean comments, aggression, spitting, hair pulling, scratching, eloping, family aspects, going into differentttt homes, driving and the later days). You work with an Engagement Manager and BCBA (supervisor) this side of the company is really great! We all support each other and continue down the yellow brick road together. You build great (some not so great) relationships with parents and always great relationships with the clients. Overall, you will learn a lot and have great opportunities to attend IEP and different school meetings. Sometimes, I do feel like my entire week is consumed with ABA and no free time besides when I get home. We're just getting started around 3pm and...3pm creeps up on

Behavior Coach (Current Employee) –  Midlothian, VAMay 14, 2018
Very poor communication at this company as well as lots of driving and compensation that seems unfair compared to the amount of wear on my automobile.

There is a CEO who operates the company from the top of the pyramid and he seems to frequently make decisions that effect worker compensation in a manner that allows him to pay less for more work. Workers often have an overwhelming caseload while management increases pressure to complete tasks that seem irrelevant to initial job description. Administration attempts to smooth over the ever-growing sense of low morale by occasionally offering $30 Target gift cards for perfect performance over quarterly periods.

In general there seems to be a sense of uneasiness about approaching management with concerns or disagreements with frequency company policy changes out of fear of being fired for voicing one's opinion.
Pros
Some degree of autonomy when creating weekly schedule, free time during weekdays sometimes to run errands, etc.
Cons
Inconsistent compensation, some long days, lots of driving, lots of wear and tear on automobile, very poor communication across entire company

Great Place to work
Manager (Current Employee) –  Richmond, VAAugust 3, 2017
YFSVA is a great company. They offer insurance benefits, 401k, sometimes free lunches, travel reimbursement, and other various incentives just for doing your job! The biggest department of the company is new (July 2013) so it does have its kinks, but no question goes unanswered if you just ask. The CEO is super nice and personable, the staff can go to him for just about anything. This is a great opportunity not only for people gaining experience, but people who want to make a difference in this field.

Extremely Poor Management/Compensation
Behavior Coach (Former Employee) –  Midlothian, VAMay 25, 2017
For those new to the field, this can be a good opportunity, sure. However, be aware that management was a massive issue. Lots of running around 'with heads-cut-off moments.' In addition, compensation was awful. Similar positions, offering much better training or more motivated individuals are available even next door to the center.
Pros
Good support (from coworkers, not management)
Cons
Poor management, poor pay

Behavior coach (Current Employee) –  Richmond, VAMarch 23, 2017
This is the best company I have worked for especially in this field. They have great company parties and incentive programs. The monthly company meetings are informative and fun. You're not required to buy your own supplies which is different in this field. Employees have unlimited access to the printer and can print in color ink. They also equip employees with iPads. There are occasionally some communication issues, but nothing that can't be resolved. It is a new-ish company (been around for about 3 years) and they're growing rapidly. That being said, there is unlimited room for growth.
Pros
Great company culture, great coworkers, everyone really cares about the clients
Cons
Some internal communication issues

Work alongside amazing coworkers and help many children and their families!
Manager (Current Employee) –  Richmond, VAJanuary 31, 2017
Honestly, this is the best company I've worked for! The children and their families are amazing and I always go home knowing I've helped a family! No job will ever be 100% perfect, but this company has many more pros than cons. The company strongly believes in staff training and education. With the monthly staff meetings/training, I always feel like I'm getting the most updated information on how to correctly implement behavior strategies/techniques. Working closely with a BCBA/LBA, I feel comfortable asking questions and know they will be answered (described, modeled, or you'll be provided with training) quickly and correctly. Weekly supervisions are always a great help to ensure the appropriate procedures are occurring during sessions! There is always something to do and I never feel as if I am "chasing hours."
Pros
Working with amazing kids and families, Having some control of your work schedule, Staff training; Room to grow
Cons
There is a good amount of driving involved

Former Behavior Coach (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAJanuary 16, 2017
If you land an interview, be sure to get all the details and ask as many questions as you can. There are some things they won't tell you until after you start. Make sure that you know what you are getting yourself into as far as your hours, pay, and working with certain staff members. Be very mindful towards your co-workers as well because everything you do is being reported to the CEO. There is a lot of miscommunication amongst staff members which is the hardest part of the job because as you are trying to learn your job, you will be told different things by different managers. You will also be running around trying to get things done consistently. In spite of all that, the kids are amazing and working with them is very rewarding.
Pros
Great kids, some staff members are great and helpful, rewarding feeling you get when working with the kids
Cons
low pay, horrible management, you don't have a say so as a coach, & some staff will report you for the same things that they do on a daily basis

Behavior Coach (Former Employee) –  Richmond, VAMay 4, 2016
Hours are hard to come by since the Children are only available from 2:30 -8 TYPICALLY. No one is on the same page and you are told twenty different things from five different managers. Most of your hours come from case management which you have to come up with on your own. Overall there are a few good people at this company , they really do great things for the kids but as far as how the company is run ....it is just awful.
Pros
Supervision towards BCABA, Amazing kiddos to work with, Some supervisors provide amazing training's, amazing Christmas party
Cons
Low pay, end up having to work almost every day just to hit hours, terrible management, overall company just is not run well
