I worked for the YWCA last summer, I was terminated because I am in the LBGTQ community. Bigotry was abundant

Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedDo not waste your time, I was employed for one month, and let go because I was asked to preform tasks that I was not comfortable with. You have no worth to the YWCA, you are replaceable and they will

Meaningful work, great coworkers
Staff (Former Employee) - 225 SW 12th Street - April 18, 2023
While work-life balance can be hard in a nonprofit environment, especially in a place working to tackle big issues, I enjoyed my coworkers and the positive and inclusive work environment. Those who are truly dedicated to the mission stick around. Leadership is open to input and encourages everyone to take on a leadership role. I like that we were expected to work hard but also take good care of ourselves, which is necessary with this kind of work.
Pros
Growth opportunities, great retirement, decent PTO, great coworkers

Management needs to go
Victims Advocate (Former Employee) - Topeka, KS - March 24, 2023
Very unprofessional behavior from management, getting fired is not uncommon and for whatever reason they believe. Management is not up to par, empowerment is not happening on any level, and the advocates are untrained and not capable of handing clients in a way that they deserve. Promotions happen very quickly and are not justified.

Loved the work but not the management.
Shelter Advocate (Former Employee) - Topeka, KS - November 15, 2022
I enjoyed working with survivors at our shelter but the management is very unsupportive. The upper management has run off a lot of good staff. They are very unsupportive when staff are in a crisis situation or experiencing burn out. But they will talk a big game about self care.

Unorganized, unappreciated, underpaid, overworked
Advocate (Former Employee) - YW - September 14, 2022
This is the worst organization to work for. The supervision team is a joke. If there is any sense of conflict or miscommunication, it becomes a very argumentative, cantankerous environment. The upper staff is condescending, then wonder why their turnover rate is awful. If you had more organization, communication and respect for your employees. You would see better results. Their worry is people are just working there for a paycheck, but CANNOT even get those people to continue working for them. Because they say they’re a center for “safety and empowerment” but never once was that practiced for their staff. General respect isn’t even given. You’re setting yourself up for failure applying here. Because all you receive is a poor overview of yourself, as well as all your faith in humanity will be gone.
Pros
Absolutely nothing.
Cons
The worst overlooking staff you’ll ever have.

Do not work here
Before and After School Coordinator (Current Employee) - Topeka, KS - February 21, 2022
Terrible management. No work / life balance. You’re expected to work 24/7 with no in between. Youth services is a disaster so ELC, Kids Quest was a nightmare. They don’t care about part time employees, you won’t get trained, they lie, manipulate and tear you down. They are so focused on earning cash the quality of care is non-existent!!! This place was the worst job I’ve ever had. Do not trust the managers what’s so ever. just skip the youth services all together, and save you a break!!!

Spectacular Coworkers
Shelter Advocate (Former Employee) - Topeka, KS - September 6, 2020
The environment, the people, the support staff to the administration is just so supportive. It brings a new meaning to work family. The training is inclusive and the work is so important.

A great work environment to provide a sense of purpose and positive impact.
Business Manager (Former Employee) - Topeka, KS - April 13, 2020
No. I do not wish to provide further details at this time. I consider this a personal matter and will keep it so. Now I need to hit 150 characters. Done.
