Mid-Management in Asheville, NC
on July 26, 2018
While the YW has its heart in the right place, it struggles to function because of high level micromanaging and poor organization structure. This is most felt in mid-level positions, and most full-time, non-officer positions are constantly job-hunting. It seems the organization can't help itself, as constant turnover leaves current staff feeling overworked and underpaid. Depsite recent efforts to prevent attrition, administration's mismanagement is too much for even the most optimistic employees. It seems the farther from administration you work, the better it gets. I would only (and highly) recommend the YW for part-time and lower-tier positions. Perhaps in the coming years, a new CEO can turn the culture around.
Coordinator in Asheville

Way too much stress for very low salary. I had very high hopes when starting this job and thought I could spend many years here. However, there is a lack of respect for staff at this organization and many delicate issues are mis-managed by the higher ups. Hostile work environment to new parents and families. The program I worked for closed and I was offered a lower position after nearly a year of excellent work there. I left to create a more balanced life for my young family, as the stresses of this job were too much and the salary didn't come close to supporting us.

Really just a great gym and childcare center with a friendly and dedicated staff. The bosses are understanding and friendly as well, and the company offers or partners with various vocational training programs.
