The poor management was too much
Repair Service Technician, Quality control (Former Employee) –  Buffalo Grove, ILNovember 1, 2018
The management at the location I was hired is notorious for being cut-throat and condecensding to many of its workers. There was also little possibility of advancement based on actual job merit, instead it was apparently solely dependent on the relationship with management. I knew many people who were great co-workers, but ultimatly were not offered career-advancment options because a person in the chain of command wanted to place one of their friends in the position. Not everyone in managment acted like this, but unfortunatly they often had no choice in the matter.

On a positive note, the benefits that the company offers are more or less industry standard, and I never had an issue regarding this.

Plenty of overtime, bad management.
Repair Technician II (Current Employee) –  Buffalo Grove, ILOctober 17, 2018
The work place is clean and there are a lot of nice people there.
The pay is not the best, but there are a lot of opportunities for overtime.
The management is awful. They set productivity goals that are unobtainable. Provide little to no support for second and third shift, while still expecting high productivity. Expect to have someone looking over your shoulder if you aren't meeting your productivity numbers. Every time you have a highly productive day, that becomes your baseline. Management will always expect more, but when it comes to yearly raises do not expect more than $0.50 at most.
For how difficult and stressful the work is, I would not recommend anyone to pursue a job in the Buffalo Grove repair depot. They will probably start you off at $12 an hour and expect you to perform at the same level as someone who has been there for multiple years, with little to no training.
Pros
Clean, friendly employees
Cons
Management is terrible, stressful work environment

Test Engineer (Current Employee) –  Holtsville, NYJuly 25, 2018
A majority of your time will be spent running tests plans for new products or re-testing new bug fixes or features. These tests are for both software and hardware, so you may be testing the Bluetooth module one day and a new barcode symbology the next. Most of the time it's manual testing but you may have to automate testing from time to time. You'll work in teams alongside other test engineers and occasionally, directly with electrical engineering or software engineering teams to discuss any issues that cropped up in the latest cycle. The workplace can be fairly relaxed, mostly between cycles where there is nothing to do but run exploratory testing. Overall, it's a good experience but don't expect much in the way of salary. Don't expect raises unless you're prepared to fight tooth and nail for it.

Supply Chain member
Business Analyst (Former Employee) –  Lincolnshire, ILJuly 17, 2018
Senior management staff have good intentions with great experience on guiding the demand planning team to success. They check in with the team often in group forums that most Zebra departments don't make time for.
Despite the autonomy and trust given to team members the opportunity for advancement is limited. NALA managers make the most effort to give their employees professional development.
Team-members are like family and honestly care to help you out in Operations. The culture comes from the Zebra lifers of 10+ years.

Sr. Director, Global Accounts (Former Employee) –  remote, AZNovember 26, 2018
Zebra just purchased our division from Motorola and was going through challenges in integrating this new business. Numerous senior level management positions were being reassigned, so while I was there, it was quite challenging.

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE SPECIALIST (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILJune 27, 2018
This job is good paying however the lack of help does get stressful. I think we need better management and you cant really go up in this business unless you know someone or live close to their head quarters or repair center.

Management slavery
Machine Operator (Current Employee) –  Flowery Branch, GAFebruary 15, 2018
Zebra used to be a good company. Now its nothing more than corporate slavery. Upper management has a great vision for the company and want to see it grow while direct management (plant managers/supervisors) push their employees to the extreme on working hours and pushing for more production. Direct managers have no skills in the trade just a diploma on the wall. they have no concern with the employee or their families just making themselves look good. they constantly talk down to the blue collar workers. Pay raises are never more than a 3% once a year and a yearly bonus adds up to maybe one weeks pay after taxes. if they slow down and see who actually makes the money flow through the corporation and gave more appreciation to the blue collar worker the company could grow quicker than they can imagine.

Terrible warehouse management
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) –  Greenville, WIMay 24, 2018
The culture they preach is terrible. Management is a joke. Pay raises are as bad as the management. Work itself wasn’t bad. Just everything around you brings you down. And if you get hurt good luck.

Was happy to work there. Was much happier to leave.
Software Engineer (Former Employee) –  Lincoln, RIApril 18, 2018
Zebra was a good place to work, even when things were getting tense and due dates were rolling in. Technology was top notch and one could (and did) learn a lot. Over time however management has changed and little by little it become clear that the good hard days were over. No more bonuses. Pay increases gone. Career advancements gone. Most if not all competitive advancements in technology outsourced. Personal loyalty to management became the main criteria for job security. "You are lucky to have this job" was the response to any request. Working on weekday nights and on weekends became the norm.
People were leaving. I wasn't the first one or last one to leave. Hope things changed since, people who stayed deserve that.
Pros
People, technology.
Cons
Sweat shop culture, low pay, crazy work hours, no work/life balance.

Test Engineer Advanced Engineering (Former Employee) –  Holtsville, NYJanuary 30, 2018
From an engineering perspective it was a fine place to work. I would have retired from here however my positions was "transitioned" to Mexico. I accept that it was a business decision and don't blame anyone there. I really enjoyed the challenge of my job, developing automated test systems for manufacturing. However there was pressure to deliver on time and to have the system perform well with test requirements, cycle times, cost and reliability all playing a part. Management did have an open door policy and you could approach anyone for help or advice and receive it either from that person or be guided to someone who could help. The engineering staff was always willing to help and collaborate on a solution. The cross functional teams assembled for each project were fun to work with. Of course,at times, there are were some people that were difficult to work with but in general everyone on the project wanted it to succeed and would do whatever it took to see that happened.
Pros
Good relationships, working environment, benefits
Cons
Pressure, sometimes long hours

Operator (Current Employee) –  Flowery branchNovember 9, 2018
Management needs to make decisions base on business needs, not personal needs. Due to this issue a selected few of employees and staff are not held accountable for their poor decisions. This has been a repetitive issue with the same actions....HR and top Management visits, interview employees, request changes etc. They are not seeing the big issue or not wanting to accept the fact that the leaders they have does not have the requirements to lead the operation. Zebra has a great vision but the key roles within the operation can barely make ends meet throughout the day.

Good place to work, don't upset the Supervisors as a contractor
Repair Technician (Current Employee) –  Bentonville, ARJuly 5, 2018
Zebra is a great place to work, easy to understand the ins and outs of the job, and great people to work with. However, as most of their workforce is contract based, it's difficult to maintain a solid sense of job security when your contract could be ended on the whim of any of the supervisors there.
Pros
Good and helpful people to work with
Cons
Bad middle management, power trips, lack of understanding of day to day issues

Walk on egg shells if you want to survive
Technician II (Former Employee) –  Bentonville, ARNovember 15, 2018
The pay is good the hours suck. Mandatory overtime is a joke. 4am start time is the worst. If your a contract employee you better watch your back. All you have to do is make the wrong person slightly upset and your done. Everyone will act like your best friend but as soon as they can they will stab you right in the back over nothing. If you keep quiet and work like a slave you will be just fine. O and god forbid a family emergency happens and you have to miss a day of work because if your a temp and that happens youre good as gone.
Pros
Good pay alot of hours
Cons
Alot
