Vehicle Operator (Former Employee) - San Francisco, CA - September 18, 2023
Was great years ago. Not as great now unless you like being treated as a child. Pay is good and you have free food but management sucks. it was ok but glad I'm not there anymore.

Project Manager (Current Employee) - Foster City, CA - September 12, 2023
Has its general growing pains as a new company that is proving itself. But the work is engaging, people are good to work with, all working towards the same goal. Main drawback is constant firefighting and prioritization.

Seems disorganized and management let down
Company seems really disorganized and dysfunctional, creating extra hands on work. Too many layers of middle management. Executives say work life balance is their priority. However managers and HR appear to ensure you work overtime and micromanage you. Several people throw each other under the bus, complain, making meetings uncomfortable, passive aggressive, and hypocritical. Leaving the rest of the team stuck trying to perform. The attrition rate is concerning, leaving remaining people with more work. Worst place and worst management chain I have ever experienced with lack of empathy and leadership. On multiple occasions they questioned and denied my time off requests even when planned for months and weeks ahead. I was asked to miss my planned children school pick ups on a weekly basis, several times, to attend late last minute meetings, due management s disorganization.
Pros
Free lunches.

Contractor
AVO (Former Employee) - San Francisco, CA - July 6, 2023
They provided me with a balanced professional experience that merits consideration from those seeking employment. The company's work environment reflects a moderate level of organizational culture and management style. The company offers a standard set of benefits and work policies, which align with industry standards. While there is room for improvement in terms of employee engagement initiatives, the overall atmosphere remains professional and conducive to getting the job done. The company's commitment to work-life balance is satisfactory, providing employees with reasonable flexibility. The nature of the job itself varies, with a mix of routine tasks and occasional challenges that allow for skill development and growth. The work environment fosters collaboration among colleagues, encouraging teamwork and knowledge sharing. However, there may be room for improvement in terms of clearer communication channels and streamlined processes.

Nice place to work

It was a good place to work at and they treat their employees well. Management is nice and overall a very good work environment. Everyone is judging though

Inconsistent Management
Strategic Sourcing Manager (Former Employee) - Foster City, CA - January 27, 2023
Some teams are great to work on/with, others can be a nightmare due to management. Compensation is good, but if you need to work with a difficult manager you will be stressed and treated poorly.
Pros
Good comp, some teams are good
Cons
Poor organization and planning, numerous bad apples in middle management

Mission was exciting, Management let me down
Software/Vehicle Operator (Former Employee) - San Francisco, CA - December 12, 2019
Zoox was a good company and I hope that they excel but with scaling and moving from startup to big business management became very muddled, unfair, and messy. I hope that they put people in positions that are meant for the greater good not just to "fill" a role.
I'd say be very assertive especially if you're a woman and/or a person of color. Ask questions, Be cordial and perhaps you'll get promoted.

Packaging Intern
Packaging Intern (Former Employee) - Foster City, CA - December 8, 2019
Good and humble employees. Learned a lot of new things and friendly environment. You get a chance to work with world-class engineers: anyone who has recently stepped out of the college and looking or a dynamic company to work. Zoox is the right place for them.

Jobs at Zoox
fun environment to be around
software operator (Former Employee) - San Francisco, CA - June 25, 2019
The job is hard at first you have to learn a lot in a short amount of time. But the employees and management you work with are extremely helpful and nice. You never feel like you're being left on a island to fend for yourself. The culture is a bit cut throat due to the fact that the company expects results like any other company. But ZOOX pries themselves on being efficient. Everybody in the company has a very important job and everyone respects that. So you never feel as if you're not helping. Overall it was a fantastic place to work, but be ready for a lot of hard work from the very beginning.
Pros
catered breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Cons
really fast paced

Productive and excessive cleaning, great break rooms with sofas and ping pong tables.
Janitor/Maintenance (Former Employee) - Foster City, CA - October 3, 2018
I worked at zoox for about 4 months it was a fast paced job it all depends on how fast you clean it. I had to make sure everything was organized and clean typical janitor work make sure all the trash was thrown away . I liked the job and everything I do im a fast learner so it became really easy for me

Exciting Technology, Amazing People, No Leadership
Manager (Current Employee) - Menlo Park, CA - May 7, 2018
The approach to autonomy is novel and exciting which attracts some really amazing people. There is groundbreaking work in computer vision, ECU architecture, and remote operations taking place at Zoox. However, there is no accountability for missing deadlines or performance in general. Constant slips by the hardware team are now the standard with no explanation or consequence. The recruiting team is leadership is more concerned with kissing up to the CEO/CTO than bringing in great talent. Most of the directors and VPs know that the timelines are impossible given the lack of leadership but will say nothing because the CEO rewards drinking buddies more than performers. Lots of things could go right at Zoox if the CEO replaced himself with a seasoned leader with automotive experience and moved into a strategy role
Pros
Great people, great benefits, exciting tech
Cons
no accountability

Chaotic
Manufacturing Engineer (Current Employee) - San Carlos, CA - March 5, 2018
The manufacturing floor is under constant turmoil. Work assignments change abruptly. Documentation is incomplete and processes are not defined. Insufficient equipment results in borrowing, which causes delays.
Pros
Free lunches
