Do you work at Dollar General? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?Any advice for someone trying to get in?
So I started working at DG on Sunday. I was given a break that day, even though I only worked 4 and a half hours. I was then given a half hour break by the store manager on Monday when I worked 6 hours, didn't even ask for it. Wednesday I asked one of the assistant managers for a 15 minute break, she was unsure about it, but let me anyway. Yesterday I tried asking the same assistant manager, she told me that she was told that I am not allowed to have a 15 minute break unless I'm working 6 hours ...
IDK for sure, but I've applied at a total of 9 Dollar Generals (1 about a year 1/2 ago-the only time I took the assessment; 8 about a month ago.) Every one of them kicked out a reply with "we have decided to pursue other candidates at this time."My guess is the assessment had plenty to do with it, since the last 8 I applied at same time and the replies came at the same time. This is crazy, it's Dollar Store not a Fortune 500 office... smh

I heard the other day that one of the workers at a Dollar General in Florence, Alabama hurt her arm while working at one of the local Dollar General stores. She closed part of her arm in a register and ultimately ended up having to have her arm amputated!!! and then Dollar General fired her after she turned in a workers compensation claim! I can't believe it. Has anyone else heard of Dollar General firing anyone because they filed a comp claim against them?
So my would-be manager informed me to check the jobs site on the dollar general site for papers to fill out before the background check. Only thing is, there's nothing different in there at all. Nothing under assessments, Candidate Portal, Job Cart, Submission Status. Only thing is, under Submission Status, I can click the location I applied to and both Chrome and Internet Explorer both do a little brief loading animation on the address bar, and that's it. Then I also read I might get the hiring...
Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at Dollar General? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers?What is a typical day in the life of an employee at Dollar General?
started off around 16 hours, then cut to 8, then in the middle of the week they called and told me not to come in, my hours were cut to 4. They told me "our hours were cut" as if for the whole store, but I'm honestly suspicious.. 4 hours is pretty ridiculous. Doesn't even cover my gas to get there for that one shift. Does this mean they want me to quit? They were interviewing someone the other week so how do they not have enough hours?
I received an employment hire packet. I completed it and went in dollar general and the manager said I had to wait for background check. She said it could take up to 2 wks. I know I will pass the background check and it's been over two weeks. When you get the packet does that mean you are for sure getting hired? Can I check the status of my packet?
On August 12th, I applied online for a part-time Sales Associate. On August 14th, I received an email telling me i needed to complete the hire packet, which approximately 30 minutes later I was finished with. I received an email immediately after completing the hire packet, stating that the hiring manager would contact me. It is currently August 18th and I've recieved no emails, calls, or texts about it. Does this mean I'm not hired? Does the process always take this long?
I interviewed and was hired Friday, was sent home to fill out the new hire paperwork so they could do a background check. I was told after I would be called and scheduled to work. It's thursday now and still no call. Tomorrow if I don't hear anything I plan to call but I feel like they must have changed their mind about me somehow and decided to hire someone else after telling me I was hired? I don't know why. (I'm no criminal)
LOL LOL What planet are you living on? Dollar General is about serving themselves. They come up with all kinds of ridiculous ideas and expect overworked employees to impliment them. Where is the time? They expect way to much for the pay received. Or are you one of those managers that are on salary and get all those wonderful bonuses. That the hourlys work their butts off for you to receive. Wake up.. Or corporate will have you out the door next. And be sure not to get hurt or you will be gone ev...
