I will be graduating under an Associates Degree through Collision Repair at a local community college, and have spent an additional year taking ICAR classes and getting certified in the trade.I have no problem doing that as after all that is how you gain experience, but want to know if I am getting taken advantage and ...

Hi everyone. I’m a 25 year old auto mechanic from San Diego, ca. I have been a mechanic at a dodge dealership for over 5 years now and am already feeling the struggle. By struggle I mean the constant wear and tear on your body, the BS customer stuff you have to endure. But all that I can deal with. The big downer for me is the lack of humbleness the job brings me. I get full benefits but as expected, they are not good. 401k only matches 5%. Health insurance cost me $1100/month for a family and i...

My husband is two years in, has his degree and all 8 ASE certs.16$hr with no benefits, sick time or vacation time. It's an hour drive each way.He took it because it's the only non weekend job he could find (I'm a nurse and work most weekends and we don't have childcare, I make 4x what he makes, so...not worth it for him to work weekends)Based on our daycare, the cost of gas, after that is subtracted, I think that he brings home a whopping 400$ every two weeks. Child number two is on the way, so...

I would like to finish my education and go to another country, perhaps Mexico or Europe to work there. While i finish my education i would like to get a part time job ...
What do you enjoy most about automotive mechanic work? What do you dislike the most? Is it challenging? Are there many opportunities to learn and advance? What keeps you at your job?
I only have one piece of advise for anybody getting into the automotive trade as a mechanic, panel beater or painter. Run. Run as fast as fast as you can out of the trade and don't look back.I have been a mechanic for 9 years and have had enough. I have walked out after wasting nearly a decade in a trade with no future, low pay, high pressure and an ubelievable amount of backstabbing (Which is by the way, the only way to progress into a management position it seems)..I used to love cars, tinkeri...
I also work for Chrysler Corp. and I agree, If the vehicle was equipped with "SKIM or SKREEM" key, it would only start and run for a few seconds at a time and would eventually stop starting alltogether. You would then have to wait an exess of a half hour to restart (even with the correct programmed key). If your vehicle is starting with a basic key blank then you do not have a "chip". Also if you want to verify this call a local Dodge dealership and have them run your VIN to check the build conf...

So, as the topic states I just stated as an entry level tech. I've been laid off from two jobs and got tired of working inside. My question is that I might be offered a chance to enter the apprenticeship program. I also might be able to do an apprenticeship for HVAC-R. I'm scared to be unemployed again. In everyone opinion what would be the better route to you think?

My son's 1995 Plymouth Neon had serious engine and transmission oil leaks. We pulled engine and replace seals on both. Now engine runs fine, but transmission won't shift into gear. Fluid level is OK.During assembly, we had a linkage problem where the starter would not activate in Park, but would in Neutral/Drive. Fixed that problem, but in the process, shifter in tranny was locked. We broke it free, but may have broke something else in the process. Is the Tranny toasted?
Hi! I'm a high school teacher, and I currently have a student that is interested in attending either UTI or MMI to become a motorcycle mechanic. Both schools seem to be highly rated, but the real question is this; Are there jobs in this field, and is it worth the money to attend a program that appears to cost $40,000 for two years? He's highly motivated and is willing to take the debt. (He will get financial aid...) Does it make better financial sense to attend the local community college and ta...
I don't know much about this, so I was hoping someone could help. My mechanic is having trouble installing a remote starter in a chrystler town and country van. The problem is the motor won't turn over long enough to start. Does anyone know why this might be?
How much training/education is required? How much would it cost? How are you trained to get started? If it were a hobby, would it cost alot of money? Would you make money? or break even? Is there a place for advancement?
How hard do you think it would be to take a 4.3 chevy motor and put it in a nissan pickup truck. Pretty hard probably.
