Please, anyone considering this field, learn from what I have to say. This field is a black hole. The money isn't there, the UTI commercials are a lie to get you in the door so they can profit from your student loans.I flagged 13.7 hours last week...22.7 this week. I was there for 50 hours both weeks. I am drowning in student loan debt and tool debt. Customers are stupid blockheads who just look for the cheapest oil change deal that week and never do any needed maintenance. You go for broke. Thi...
AUTOMOTIVE TECHS DONT GET PAID WELL ! THEY HAVE BUY 50,000.00 IN TOOLS AND WORK ON HOT ENGINES,GET CUT ,BURNT AND PAID CRAP. THE STARTING PAY IS ABOUT 8.00- 10.00 A HOUR AFTER YOU HAVE A YEAR OF SCHOOL UNDER YOUR BELT. AFTER FIVE TO SEVEN YEARS YOU MAY BE MAKING 17.50 - 19.50 PER FLAT RATE HOUR.IF A BRAKE JOB PAYS TWO HOURS AND YOU DO IT 1 HOUR YOU HAVE DONE WELL.BUT LETS SAY YOU WORK FOR A DEALERSHIP AND HAVE A ENGINE JOB THAT PAYS 8 HOURS UNDER WARRANTY BUT IT TAKE YOU 12 HOURS -YOU JUST WORKE...
cant speak for honda but toyota has really gone downhillits a lot of warranty work that doesnt even come close to paying well and the customer pay is basically oil changes and rotates on the newer models, any good maintenace work is given to a hourly apprentice,
Okay well im a senior in high school going to a vocational school for automotive technology. I am just wondering if all of it turns out to be worth it in the end. I mean i like working on cars its just if the amount of money spent on tools, training and hell college isn't going to pay off whats the point? if anybody knows a good field to go into if this isn't good please LET ME KNOW 😄
I am wondering whether you are able to switch schools dueing the automotive technician program. I am having a lot of trouble finding out whether this is possible. i would like to start school next fall, but the following fall I have to move and I’m not entirely sure where that will be yet. If anyone knows what transfer options there are, where would be best to apply that would allow me to transfer or any sites where I can find this information itd be much appreciated. thanks.
For those of you that are considering an exciting career as an automotive tech, please look at other career options! I have been working in this field for over 12 years and it has been pure misery. Toxic fumes and chemicals, asbestos(yes they still use it in brake pads), constant aches and pains that will get worse, nasty dirty filth everyday, hot as hell in the summer(seen many pass out), cold in the winter, and of course the great pay you will receive for all your hard work(sarcasm). The one...
I grew up and currently reside in Western New York, the heart of the salt belt. I make a decent living as an Automotive Repair Technician in a local repair shop ( not a dealer), and have always wondered what opportunity lies outside of New York State. From the research I've done, it seems the median income for technicians is higher up here than in places further south. I'm itching to leave NY's high taxes, but would like opinions to where is most likely for a technician to make higher salary, wi...
O ya where? I work in west chicago now. I've cked out those dealerships. Your a rare one if that is true. I've been a tec for 21 years, ASE master, plus: Gm training, ver. classes (my independent shop owner sent me to when I worked for him). Worked at a union truck shop. Everything but the race circuit. most I've ever made was $75,000 but that was working 50 hours a week every week of the year. Another job paid me $62,000 for the years working 45 hrs a week every week for the year. I paid $800.-...
I am a automotive repair technician. I have worked in the industry for 12 years. I have not gone to technical schools but have received factory training, apprenticed, and self taught through reading and web-based training. I am very good at what I do but am increasingly dissatisfied at the constant drop in flat rate labor times and the decreasingly poor pay employers wish to pay us. More and more I see dealerships and aftermarket shops alike use Mitchell and All-Data to figure out service labor ...
Well I went to school for auto and graduated and am working in the field under a tech. I am now realizing that this is not the field for me and I want to do something else. I am only 21 and want to find a job that I can enjoy I would like to no what other jobs former auto techs have went into after they left the auto field. Thanks
Hi all, I'm currently an IT tech with a steady job and decent salary/benefits. I also do some side gigs that bring in alright money. I'm getting the itch for a bit of variety and challenge. I see a local 2 bay auto shop that is up for sale that has been around for ~30 years that I'm evaluating the possibility of purchasing. I'm a hobby mechanic and always work on my own stuff, but I would in no way consider myself an ASE-caliber tech. But I do very much like auto tech and believe I have abo...
Almost all job offerings I have come to find, either in automotive repair or collision repair are asking for at least a few years of experience. I guess it comes down to the essential question, how to get into the industry with zero experience? My grandfather tells me of the days where they would offer free training programs at Ford and GM, and would take in high school students on the union salary. I have an associates degree I completed at a community college, in collision repair and am pretty ...
This topic is being created for discussion of the conventional scientificdescriptions ofenergyworkforceand power and the methods of their measurement.ESPECIALLY AS THEY APPLY TO MAGNETIC INTERACTIONS.................................It is also for discussion of both the conventional descriptions of magnet interactions and new theories observations and so on.
I’m doing a apprenticeship at Mitsi as a “Technician" and I don’t want to be doing this my whole life, so I want to know where people have gone after completing their apprenticeship. I was thinking of like performance, or something in the office.. but I like hands on, any ideas or stories to tell? Haha
I know the two is different but how much does a regular ase tech make. Compare to a ASE master. I know you could probably make more as a master because you've passed all 8 sections on the test.so how much does each one make. And I know all salarys would probably be differenthe cause not all regular ase' will have the same pay rate. And not all masters will have the same pay rate. ButI want to know what the average is. Hourly. Fill free to talk about flat rate. But I just want to know hourly
Any arachnophobic technicians here How to deal with cars that have been sitting a while full of 8 legged friends
I am in school to become a tech. Currently, I work at a shop as a porter and I see my fair share of cars brought in on tow trucks from the dead. Most of the time they come infested with spider webs and inhabitants. I live in south Texas where there are plenty of spiders, including these hairy black tarantula looking monsters that are about the size of an average person's palm. I'm originally from Missouri. There are decent sized garden spiders and whatnot up there but nothing like the crap I've ...
