Hi everyone! I've been indecisive about my future career. I graduated with a bachelor's in child development, only to find out that I'm not that interested in teaching and jobs in this field aren't as fulfilling as I need it to be in the money aspect. After graduation, I worked as a behavioral therapist for a few months and encountered occupational therapy. I was so intrigued by how occupational therapy can change behavior and the overall lifestyle of people. I ultimately set my mind on pursuing...
Any COTAs with experience opening their own private practice? What business entity did you open? What insurances were you able to apply to as a provider? How did you fulfill your supervision requirements? I've been combing the internet for info about this topic but can't seem to find anything on it. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 🙂
As an OT, I tend to agree that it's a lot of quackery... but a lot of this has more to do with the individual personalities themselves. I've been to a number of places where it appears that the clinicians are super-lazy and fly by the seat of their pants when their clients arrive. I've been to schools and have seen a lot of people doing nothing but hanging out and gossiping for hours at a time, chatting on the phone and collecting paychecks. But if you REALLY want to talk about quackery, take a l...

I am currently in school in Colorado and I am looking to move to Texas once I'm done. Can anyone give me some advice as to how long it will take to transfer my certification? Also what places would anyone recommend to work at? Thanks in advance.
I am a new grad COTA (go me!) who is interested in traveling in the Texas area. Any suggestions as for companies/recruiters to work with? Also what is the average salary in the Texas area as a contract COTA. I am interested in the SNF setting as that is where both of my Level II internships were.Any info is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!
I'm a COTA and I'm thinking of relocating to the Charlotte, NC area or nearby SC areas. I'm currently working in a community based/outpatient brain injury/neuro rehab clinic and I love it! I would like to find something similar in the Charlotte area. I've also worked in sub acute, acute and SNF. I'm in my 50's so a SNF with a high productivity level does not sound appealing to me. I've never worked peds before and I'm not sure if I would like it. Any recommendations of reasonable places to work...
Hi, I will be applying to COTA school next year. I am trying to find out has any one done any of the therapy programs full-time while working full-time? I know they advise you against it but, I am the only person working in my family and supporting them. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.
I am fixing to graduate as a COTA. I was browsing through the available jobs in my area, however; they are either part time or traveling. I really want to stay where I live, because of my family. Has anybody ever took a traveling job? Do you stay in your town or go for long distances?
What are the top 3 traits or skills every certified occupational therapy assistant must have to excel? Can you suggest any tips or insights to develop your certified occupational therapy assistant expertise?
I am looking fo information on becoming an indepedant contractor as a COTA.Does anyone have any info on this subject or are doing this themself? I have nearly 20 years experience as a COTA with the last 3 years as a traveler.I am now wanting to stay in one area but don't want to take a full time job.
Hi, I have a question for those of you who are COTAs. I graduated last year and since then have been traveling on business nearly non-stop with my husband (I was home for 2 1/2 months during the last year). My husband is currently looking for a "non-traveling" job, but has been unsuccessful so far. I'd like to work but don't know if it's possible. I've never held a COTA position and I hear that it's really difficult to work per diem as a new grad. I thought about working as a traveling COTA, but...
Hi everyone. I am currently going to a community college to become a COTA. I just finished the first year of the program and am just not sure if it's the right career path for me. I've also been hearing that the majority of job opportunities for COTA's are in SNFs, which I'm not sure how I feel about that.Does anyone have any advice or testimony from personal experience as a COTA?Thanks in advance for your input.
Thinking out loud. I am currently attending college. When I first starting this journey, I wasn't for sure what I wanted my major to be,(what I wanted to do as a career). After taking all the basic coursed that every college student has to take, I know need to take positive steps and choose my career. I want to get paid as much as I possibly can. I know, greedy little American! However, I have student loans I need to pay for and I ran right through my saving because of this wicked economy. Here...
Hi! I'm a student in the COTA program at a technical college and had a question for some experienced COTAs out there. I love my schooling, but am concerned about the physical requirements? I am young and in good shape but worry about burning myself out. My main question is, can you carry this career on until you retire? Please let me know what you think.
Just started school and was wondering if any ots or otas could give me a little advice on what its like.
Iam going to school for ota and was wordering how hard will it be to find a job in st.louis mo. If There are any otas or ots in st.louis I was just wondering how the job market is there, and if I should try to switch to pta instead.
Hello,I have been a COTA for over 3 years, and have always sought after jobs with private companies vs. recruiters. Lately, I have not been able to find anything too localized. I have been looking into recruiting company jobs with companies such as Supplemental Healthcare, Travel Rehab, and many more. Does anyone know anything about these companies? Should I be weary of recruiting jobs, or give them a try? Also, what are the company names to watch out for (with high turn over/ burn out rates?)
I am interested in becoming a COTA. However, I was wondering if there were any cota's out there that I could have a personal conversation with regarding their daily routine. Please email me at ***********Thanks.
I had a bachelor deg. In OT from another country. Since I haven't got my certification, I decided to go for OTA program. Is there a way a company can utilize me as OTA here in CO. Prior to take the certification? Since this state don't regulate OTA?

Hi Guys, Ive heard rumors that because of medicare gone, there will be less demand for these types of therapy jobs.Im also debating whether to try Respiratory therapy. What do you guys think? Any future in any of them?
I'm fixing to graduate with a BS from a university with Child Development and Family Studies. I really have a heart for disabled/developmentally delayed children and would love to work with them. There are a few facilities here, that are my dream jobs for this area and it looks as though achieving them would be more likely if I did a certified occupational therapy assistant program. I'm wondering if there are some COTAs in this area that could tell me about the process. I'm not wanting to do an ...
