I'm a top notch designer with 18 years' experience, the last 12 years having run my own freelance business. Finally admitted to myself I'm tired of working alone much of the time, and want to work at an agency in town. So since last September I've been looking for a graphic design position in Fargo ND where I live. It is a very small market and . . . I can't find a job. In-house companies want a designer to be a coder, videographer, photographer, writer etc. Some small companies are paying desi...

I'm tired of companies that won't call after applying multiple times after they list multiple times for a job I am qualified for. Anybody else feeling like they don't want a qualified person for their position? It's like they want to hire a janitor to do a receptionist job or something.
Graphic Designer NOT Graphics Designer Graphic Designer does not mean Web Designer these are 2 separate careers
I'm a Graphic Designer, I design a lot of print ads, I specialize in marketing which means I convey a message through images and type. Whether my work is for print the message is the same, the software used is the same:Photoshop, Indesign & Illustrator, these 3 programs are my tools of the trade and all I need to get the job done whether it be a 2 story poster or a website banner the design process is the same.In fact very little changes from print to web: file size, image size, dpi, color modes...
I was a graphic designer working in print for about 15 years. I got a full time teaching gig for 8 years. Thanks to low campus enrollment, the job was cut. I have been out of work since June. I have learned HTML5, web design, Fireworks, and a bunch of other stuff. BUT I still can't seem to find a job.I am either over qualified, or in the case of art directing, I am not chosen because I worked at in-house design studios rather than agencies. My portfolio is good, I am told. The quality is good an...

I decided initially to go to a University to possibly make my education look better, and was hoping to have more thorough classes. Turns out most of my classes will be art, many art history classes, and so forth. I don't feel like the program overall will prepare me in this field. I have s...

Do it! yes they have IT training in America but its so competitive that you may spend half your career trying to get into the field than actually working. If its guaranteed that you will work doing graphic design/IT I would definately take them up on it.

Now I am having tough time to decide which one to go for. Which one should I pay more interest on to look for a job. Please help me.
I have tryed finding freelance jobs when I get the chance. I even design forms and fliers for jobs I've had, but still that doesn't count as experience! What do you need to do to get noticed for the work you are finding on your own. And why doesn't walking in to companies and handing in resumes count as much as it used to?
