I'm interested however in finding a position in project management with one of the contractors doing work in Iraq and Afghanistan, like Fluor or ITT for example. I've put out some resumes, and really just started exploring this. Does anybody have any advice they can give or avenues to look down? I have an active security clearance and will have PMP and Six Sigma certifications in the next few months.

If you don't have any actual field experience you may have to settle for a position in contracts management or another role within a Project Management Team until you "pay your dues" and get your own project. There are quite a few experienced Project Managers with comparable educ...
