What is the best training for becoming a power plant operator? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective power plant operator?

What do non-traditional career paths look like?

Maritime college, marine/power engineering.
U.S. Navy, power school.
Technical college/school.
Engineering college,
Engineering certificates/ licenses.
High School diploma (Minimum).

Years of on-the-job-training. Large power companies have mandatory on-going school/training evolutions. These programs are dedicated to help raise the aptitude of workers no matter what background one has. The training is a pre-requisite for all individuals looking to advance in their career. No matter if the employee has an engineering degree, or a high school diploma, training evolutions are normally required for career advancement. It takes many years to mature as a fully qualified power plant operator, regardless of ones background.
