What are the top 3 traits or skills every sous chef must have to excel?

Can you suggest any tips or insights to develop your sous chef expertise?

Trying to limit to a choice of three skills as tops is really hard to do. Probably the most important skill, in my oppinion, is situational awareness, and a command presence. You must be in control at all times. This includes your emotions, and temper. I compare it to a man falling off a boat at sea, you don't chew him out while he is drowning for falling overboard, you throw him a life ring to save him. When the line is going down because of overwelming volume don't hesitate to step in and help out. You must be there for your crew, they are your most valuable asset. Treat them with respect, and leave your ego at home. You were there once, and personally I have learned something from everyone that has worked under me throughout the years. You can not afford to have what I call tunnel vision, be aware of everything going on around you. You must use all your sences, especially in a large kitchen, not just sight.
