My girlfriend works in a small office as an RDA, I believe, and is getting ready to move on. She has been considering a job at a prison in Sacramento, CA, but is uncertain about whether or not she would be compatible with the working environment.

Does anybody have any advice/experience?

I currently work in the county jail which has it's own set of rues and regulations. Their is an orientation process that you will attend to help acclimate you to the jail/prison environment. Working in a prison requires that you keep your guard up at all times. There are some case histories on the internet that might be helpful.

I have been working in our state penitentiary for approx. 2 years and I love it. I'm a 33yr old female with 2 children, a single mother, I am safer there than in the general public. I went through the officers training, I also got my weapons qualification to work the towers for extra hours. You are trained for the unexpected and have guards there to help you. You don't have a radio on hand in the general public to call for help, but you do have many options for help in the prison. I've found that the inmates have a great deal of respect for you, however; beware of the staff shoppers, they will try to get you to "promise" things, don't promise anything to anyone!!!

I was also considering working in the prisons. From the sounds of it you are paid well and have benefits. Do the prisons utilize RDAEF's?
