Hello to all,
I am in need of some advise. I want to take a course either Medical Assistant or Pharmacy Technician to better my skills and to make more money than working as a CNA. The problem is I don't know which one would have a better pay rate or better job outlook.

I have been a CNA for some years now (do not have enough current acute care experience to challenge boards as an LVN =( . But I was told that as an LVN one couls challenge the boards as well....is that true?

So what is your advise for me? Thanks!

Hi,

I live in Texas and I have exactly the same question that you've posted.

At this point I'm more leaning towards MA but I also think about PT.... Hope someone will provide us with helpful advise.

it all depends on your education but lets say your fresh out of school they both make about the same amount of money "Starting" but i prefer MA theres more hands on where PT is just learning pill names and counting which is easy and more and more pills are made every year

HI, I am actually debating on whether to go into pharmacy technician or medical assitant. Im not sure honestly.. I just want to help patients in a hospital setting. But I hate giving shots. and doing stuff that has to do with blood.

Shivani,

Not sure how to advise you, I am a medical coder, but I know that Career Step has great training programs for both Pharmacy Technicians and Medical Assistants. The pay for Medical Assistants tends to be better, unless you can find a position in hospital pharmacy or mail-order pharmacies also tend to pay better, although not sure as good as a medical assistant.
The amount of bloodwork you would have to do really depends on what kind of office you end up in. You could always focus your job search more on practices that require their medical assistants to focus more on the administrative side of things. Career Step also offers certificate programs in Medical Administrative Assistant and Medical Office Manager if you want to stay away from the bloodwork side of things.

Career Step has been around for over 25 years educating medical office professionals and is a name recognized by employers. They also offer 2 great tuition payment plans or if you can pay in full they offer great end of year tuition discounts for all their programs. Here's a link to that offer:
