Dear fellow students, graduates, and seasoned medical transcribers,

I have a thought about this. Volunteering is an excellent way to give back to your community, but on the other hand if you want to be paid for your expertise do not give it away. I think if there is no calling for medical transcriptionists, then it is time to move on to another profession, and if there is then you are selling yourself short. Why would anyone want to pay you after you have chosen to give your skills away. This is from an outside perspective I realize. I am a medical transcription/medical editor student. I am about 1/2 way through my program with Career Step and I have had to pay plenty in terms of my time, energy and money to take this program. However, if when I complete the course I cannot still find employment in the field, I am ready to cut my losses and move on. I can only assume this education will help me in some way, even if not in the way it is intended. I have to be optimitic but guarded.
