I'm switching major out of accounting. Thinking of going into computer science, is it competitive like accounting?

I can't speak for NYC, but I've noticed more and more, IT/programming jobs don't require a college degree if you have relevant experience.

Maybe you can finish the accounting degree, then learn programming/IT on your own.

I'd say computer-related fields are very competitive. And will be especially so as Congress looks to increase H1b visas in the near future.

You are right but without experience, jobs in computer related fields are virtually non-existent. Hence, the H1b solution.

I'd be running the other way.
