Job Posting Location Policy

This policy helps you pick the right job location when posting on Indeed. It covers in-person, fully remote, hybrid, and on-the-road jobs. The rules apply to all employers on the platform.

Following these rules helps your jobs reach more job seekers. All jobs may still appear less frequently or be removed at Indeed’s discretion to ensure job seekers see high-quality job that match their search results.

Job Location Policies

Jobs must be posted with the most specific and accurate location. Location variations are not allowed. For example, if the role requires reporting to an office in Los Angeles, the job should list Los Angeles as the location.

  • Jobs Without a City and/or State: High-quality remote or on-the-road jobs can be posted with a nationwide or statewide location when the role can be performed anywhere within that state or nation. If the job requires on-site work, an address or post code must be provided.
  • Targeting Locations: Only post jobs in locations where your business actually works.

How to Choose the Right Location

In-person jobs

Work that takes place fully on-site at a specific location.

  • Provide the street address where the job seeker will report, or at minimum the postcode.
  • You may hide the street address if needed.

Fully remote jobs

Work that does not require any on-site presence.

  • List the correct state or country if there are residency requirements (for example, must live in a specific state or nation).
  • Learn more about posting a remote job.

Hybrid jobs

Work that includes both on-site and remote components.

  • Provide the street address where the job seeker will report, or at minimum the postcode.
  • You may hide the street address if needed.

On the road or Travel jobs

Work that involves traveling between locations rather than staying in one fixed place.

  • If the job has a starting point, include the street address. If not, list the general area where work occurs.
  • Select On the road if employees can work remotely when they aren’t traveling.
    • In the job description, include:
      • Expected travel percentage (for example, 25% or 75%)
      • Whether you'll cover travel expenses
      • State that, other than travel, this job can be remote

Exceptions / Special Cases

  • Jobs based in more than one real work location can be posted to each location.
  • A client can post a job statewide or nationwide on Indeed, but this is intended only for roles that are fully remote or truly on-the-road/transitory across the whole state or country. Posting broader-than-city for fixed in-person or hybrid roles is against policy; those should use the most specific city/address possible.
