Posting a Remote Job

Remote, hybrid, and on the road jobs give people flexibility in where they work. A remote job means no regular in-office time. A hybrid job means the job is split between in office and from home or another location. An on the road job means employees are expected to travel for work and may not have a consistent starting location or office.

Key details for posting remote jobs

Posting your job with the right location type helps job seekers find it more easily. It also ensures your posting follows our Job Posting Location Policy.

Remote and hybrid role requirements

Be clear about whether your role is fully remote, hybrid, or on the road. This helps job seekers know what to expect.

Suggested keywords for job descriptions

  • Fully remote roles
    • “This is a remote position”
    • “Fully remote”
    • “100% remote”
  • Hybrid roles
    • “Hybrid remote/in-office”
    • “Hybrid work schedule”
    • “Work from home [x] days per week”
  • On the road roles
    • “Travelling [job title]”
    • “On the road”
    • “Travelling required”

How to list occasional work-from-home options

Some jobs are mostly in-person but allow occasional work-from-home days. These are not remote or hybrid jobs. If you want to highlight this benefit, use phrases like:

  • “Flexibility to work from home as needed”
  • “Work from home days possible”
  • “Ability to occasionally work from home”

Location information for remote and hybrid jobs

Even when you post a job as remote or hybrid, we still ask for a location. If you decline to provide residency requirements for a fully remote job, Indeed will assign the entire country as the location. This is expected and ensures the job appears broadly.

For hybrid jobs, provide the exact in-person location. List the correct state or region for fully remote jobs with residency restrictions (for example, must live in a specific state for tax purposes).

    1. Enter the Job title.

      3. Hybrid: some on-site work required
      4. On the road
    3. Provide the job location (street address or ZIP code).
    4. Add residency requirements if needed for remote jobs, or the exact location for hybrid work.

Updating a job to be a remote or hybrid job

We recommend creating a new post if you need to make significant changes, such as changing the job's location. For more information, read our article on editing your job posts.
  1. Sign in to your employer account on Indeed.
  2. Go to your Jobs page.
  3. Select the three dots on the job you want to edit.
  4. Select Edit job.
  5. Click the pencil icon next to Location.
  6. Use the dropdown to change the Job location type.
  7. Select Done and then Save changes.

Posting a remote or hybrid job using XML files

If you post jobs via XML, add a <remotetype> field with one of these values:

  • Fully Remote
  • Hybrid Remote

If the job is fully remote but has residency rules (for example, must live in a certain state), include that in the <state> field of the XML. It is rare to use city-based restrictions, so use state or region instead.

FAQs

Question: Do I have to list a location for a remote job?

Answer: Yes. If you don’t provide a specific residency requirement, Indeed will set the entire country as the location by default.

Question: Can I post my job as remote or hybrid if it’s in-person with occasional work-from-home days?

Answer: No. These jobs aren’t considered remote or hybrid. Instead, describe the perk in your job description using phrases like “Flexibility to work from home as needed.”
