Maintaining User Safety
Indeed works to keep job seekers safe and protect their personal information. To give everyone a good experience, you must follow the rules when posting jobs or company content. Misusing personal data, photos, or videos can harm job seekers. It can also create privacy problems, and lead to unfair treatment.
By following these rules, you help build trust and attract good candidates. This keeps Indeed safe for everyone. These rules apply worldwide. If a job breaks them, it may appear lower in search results or lose access to some Indeed features. Employers should not ask for personal details before making a job offer. Doing so too early can make job seekers uncomfortable and discourage strong applicants.
Requesting Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
You can’t ask for personal information that isn’t needed in the job post or application.
Unnecessary PII includes (but is not limited to):
- Full date of birth
- Government-issued IDs (for example, social security number, driver’s license)
- Financial details (for example, bank account or credit card numbers)
- Sensitive personal documents (for example, copies of passports or birth certificates)
- Unnecessary contact information (for example, home address or personal phone numbers)
Photos in job posts and company pages
Photos help job seekers understand your workplace and company culture.
To keep Indeed safe and professional, all photos must meet the following standards:
Relevance and ownership:
- Photos must relate to your company or the job.
- You must own the rights or have permission to use the photo.
- Do not use stock photos unless they are customized to represent your company.
Do not include:
- Photos of children unless it’s directly related to the job, for example, childcare jobs
- Blurry, pixelated, or poor-quality images
- Unsafe or unhealthy work conditions
- Hate speech, violent, vulgar, or adult content
- External links, QR codes, or ads
- Sensitive data (addresses, IDs, financial details, or private company info)
Requesting job seeker videos
Video interviews can save time for both you and job candidates. Job seekers can record at their convenience and re-do answers. However, using videos for other purposes can:
- Create privacy risks
- Harm the job seeker experience
- Lead to misuse or discrimination
Examples of allowed use:
- Culture fit questions (for example, “What is the last book you read?”)
- Job-specific screening questions
- Acting and modeling jobs
Examples of not allowed use:
- Marketing or advertising purposes
- Selling video footage
- Sharing interviews online
- Requiring unrelated tasks on video
