Applying for a Job on Indeed
Some jobs let you apply directly on Indeed. Others take you to the employer's website. This article explains the applications you complete on Indeed. It covers the full process, from starting an application to what happens after you submit it.
Searching for jobs

- Find a job that matches what you're looking for. Here are some tips to improve your job search.

Applying for a job
Start the application
- Click or tap Apply with Indeed on the job listing.
- The application will open on Indeed.
- In some cases, you may need to verify your phone number.
Add your resume
You can apply with:
- Your resume on Indeed, or
- A resume file
- If you use a resume file, you can:
- Upload a file
- Use a file already uploaded to your profile
- Select Resume options to Upload a different file
Tailor your resume
- Save time applying by instantly customizing your resume to the job.Â
- This feature is offered when there’s a match between your profile and the job.Â
- If available, this option shows up during your application.
- Review and accept the suggestions to use them for your application.Â
Review your resume details
- We will scan your resume for details like work experience, education, or qualifications.
- Review these details before continuing. You can edit, delete, or add information if needed.
- We'll send the employer your resume details along with your resume. This helps make sure they receive a complete picture of your qualifications.
- You'll only need to do this once for each resume file you upload.
Answer employer questions
- Some employers ask questions about skills, experience, or qualifications.
- You must answer these questions before you can continue.
Review and submit
- Review your application details.
- Some employers let you add supporting documents if you want.
- Click or tap Submit your application.
Tip: You can save your application as a draft and finish it later.
What happens next
- After you submit your application, you'll get an on-screen confirmation. We'll also send you a confirmation email.
- Track your application's status in the Applied tab of your My jobs page.
- Some employers allow you to follow up on your application.
- Employers may contact you through Indeed Messages to schedule interviews or share next steps.

What to do if the employer doesn't respond
After one to two weeks
- Wait for the employer to review applications.
- Check your spam or junk folder for messages.
After two to three weeks
- If the employer allows follow-ups, send a polite message.
- Keep your message short and professional.
- Restate your interest in the role.
After three to four weeks
- If you haven't heard back, it's okay to move on.
- Keep applying to other jobs.
- Don't take it personally if you don't hear back.
Did you know? Being ghosted by employers doesn't mean you did something wrong. Employers often receive many applications and might not respond to everyone.

Question: Can I skip steps during the application process?
Answer: Usually, no. Each step helps make sure your application is complete. This gives the employer the information they need to review your qualifications. Some steps may be required before you can continue, and some steps may be skippable depending on the job.
Question: I made a mistake in my application. Can I edit it?
Answer: No, you can't change an application after you submit it. If you need to correct something, contact the employer directly.

Problem: I submitted my application, but I didn't receive a confirmation email.
- Solution: If you applied on the employer's website, Indeed doesn't send a confirmation email. Contact the employer directly if you have questions about your application.
- Solution: Indeed emails may be marked as spam or junk. Follow the steps from your email provider to allow messages from Indeed.
