  • What does a Crew Member do? 

    Crew Members typically work for restaurants, cafes and other food establishments to ensure that customers receive their orders promptly. They communicate with their coworkers to expedite orders, and help customers when they receive the wrong order. Their job is to count the drawer at the end of the day, organize orders for takeout or deliver food to diners at the correct tables. They may also be responsible for taking inventory of produce and dining materials for Managers.

    A Crew Member makes an average of $11.33 per hour. Pay rate may depend on level of experience, education and the geographical location. 

    Crew Member education and training requirements 

    While most Crew Member positions don’t have formal education requirements, most restaurants prefer Crew Members with a GED or high school diploma. Typically, crew members participate in company-run training programs where they learn the policies and procedures established by the company for food preparation from co-workers or supervisors. Training is also provided on protective equipment, chemicals and cleaning methods to keep them, their co-workers and guests safe.

    Both Restaurant Crew Members and Cafe Crew Members support the daily operations of food establishments, but they may differ in their daily job responsibilities due to their work environment.
