Full job description
Kentucky College Coaches on Campus maintains that all students deserve equal opportunity, access, and support with their education. Coaches assist students in making a successful academic and social transition from high school to college and offer them information and services to help them persist. The purpose of the mentor program is to ensure that students, especially underserved and marginalized students (e.g., first-generation college-going, low-income, minorities, non-traditional, disabled, etc.), get the information, knowledge, and coaching they need to attain their educational goals.
Dates: August 1, 2024- May 31, 2025 (Possible extension to 7/31/2025)*
Hours: 37.5 hours/week, Monday-Friday
Pay: $1,810 per month in living allowance, less FICA and other applicable taxes
Benefits: Healthcare and childcare eligibility, federal student loan forbearance eligibility, professional development, and an education award of $4546.50 upon completing service
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
Responsibilities:
- Document student contact and report to supervisor
- Attend all trainings and meetings
- Meet with site supervisor daily
- Contact mentees regularly and keep up on and document your time commitment
- Assist staff with programs and community service activities
- Recruit volunteers when necessary for a group or large event(s)
- Removing the achievement gap
- Career opportunities for students who have lost jobs
- Outreach for dual credit programming (middle school and high school)
- Monitoring students and mentoring them
- Boosting self-esteem in your core students and campus life
- Connecting with different trade school programs on campus
- Working closely with the college and community…being visible, and connecting with resources
- Interacting and working closely with mental health services
- Identify available resources for students (academic, financial, and community)
- Linking home, school, and community
- Gathering data and statistics to find your Core Students (first-time degree-seeking minority students, traditional and non-traditional)
- Working and developing intervention plans with other department coaches to find students who are on the brink of academic probation or dropping out
- Connecting with educational programs such as TRIO Student Support Services, The Learning Space, and more
- Working on the Cultural Diversity Committee
- Being an Advisor for the Cultural Diversity Department Organizations
Desired Skills and Characteristics:
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access, etc.)
- Must be proficient in writing/sending emails
- Must be proficient in answering or placing calls
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to be a positive and productive team member
- Excellent organizational skills and mentoring experience
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $1,810.00 per month
