Job Type:
Full-time, In-Person
Location:
Tamarack Discovery School
About Us:
Tamarack School is a progressive, non-traditional elementary school rooted in nature-based and place-based education. We believe that authentic learning happens through real-world experiences, student-driven inquiry, and strong relationships. Our curriculum integrates core academic subjects with time spent outdoors and in the community every day. We are passionate about building a school culture that is collaborative, compassionate, and centered on the growth of the whole child.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a full-time 3rd–4th grade teacher for the 2025-26 school year who brings curiosity, creativity, and joy to the classroom. This position requires a dynamic educator who is committed to student-centered learning and sees academic growth as intertwined with social-emotional development. Half the school day is typically spent outdoors or in the community; the other half is focused on in-class academics. Candidates must be comfortable designing and delivering integrated lessons in literacy, math, science, and social studies, often connected to fieldwork or student inquiry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons in all core academic subjects.
- Foster a classroom environment that is inclusive, equitable, and rooted in strong relationships.
- Lead students in outdoor and community-based learning experiences regularly.
- Collaborate with a small, close-knit team of educators to integrate curriculum and co-create meaningful learning opportunities.
- Communicate regularly with families to support student growth and share learning experiences.
- Use observation, reflection, and formative assessment to inform instruction and support individual learner needs.
- Contribute to the overall life of the school, including community events and family communication.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A deep belief in learner-centered, hands-on education.
- Experience with or strong interest in outdoor and place-based teaching.
- Enthusiasm for working in a non-traditional school environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children and adults.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultivating a respectful and compassionate learning community.
- A background in child development and an understanding of age-appropriate academic expectations for upper elementary students.
- Comfort and skill with multi-age or mixed-ability groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (required).
- Valid teaching license or relevant teaching experience (preferred).
- Experience in nature-based or progressive education settings.
To Apply:
Please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your educational philosophy and interest in our school community. We value diverse experiences and encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
